I love the following names but would like input so I don't make a mistake.

Alannah- meaning "beautiful, dear child"

Aura- meaning "gentle breeze" or "light"

I am American living in Scotland and intend to move back to the States in a couple years. Alana or Alanna has to me become quite a down-market name over the past few years. So even though to me Alannah is a different name, I am afraid because it sounds the same it will be looked down upon.

I have loved the name Aura for about 15 years since I met a woman by this name who was beautiful, kind & cool and everyone complimented her name and I love the unusual qualtiy of this name. I also love how it sounds like an "old lady" name. It was quite popular in the US in the mid 19th century.

The middle name will be Marie-Elizabeth as this is a combo of both of her grandmother's middle names.

There is no need to be insultingly rude, but please let me know which name you prefer and why. Thanks in advance! :)

Alannah - I actually like this spelling better than Alana/Alanna, it seems softer to me. I think this name will fit in well when you move back to the states.

Aura, - Hmm, sorry I'm not fond of this. Just makes me think of that invisible to most but visible to some colorful, light that surrounds people. But I do like the names Aurelia and Aurora. Either of these names could be used with the nickname Aura.

I think between Aurelia and Alannah would be a tough call, I like them both very much- I think I would give the nod to Aurelia over Alannah. Aurora is ok, but I've always found it difficult to pronounce.

Another name you might want to consider is Anthea.

Good luck with your new daughter.

I think Aura is beautiful, doesn't it mean the light around a person that shows how spiritual they are or something? If this is what you love then use it! These days there are so many names and different spellings that you would have to correct the pronounciation or spelling of any name so don't worry about that. I actually know a couple of Alannahs, although they are spelled differently, but I don't think you should use it. It sounds kind of dull.

I think both names are very pretty, and I would like to commend you for choosing more unique names. I prefer Alannah, she could go by Lana or Ann or Anna if she chose to when she gets older. If you do not like nicknames I would go with Aura, less likely that people will try to shorten it. Congrats!

I like either one! Alannah sounds nice, and it's different if you use that spelling. And Aura to me is definitely unique, though some people who don't pay attention may think it's Aurora. I don't think it sounds old-ladyish at all! It sounds like a bright, happy name for a little girl. I would use either if I were you!

I like Alannah but not Aura. How about Aurora? It's much easier to say. Aura doesn't really flow well. Congrats!

I have to say I like Alannah. I think it's a pretty name. I had a good friend with that name- she was very kind. I think it also goes well with Marie-Elizabeth (all round a good name).
Good luck and congratulations.
