I have been working together with 6th formers, who study A-level languages. In this context immigration and racism is being discussed. And most kids really haven't got a clue, just some vague opinions based on Sun headlines and preconceptions...

No that is really scary for a long time I have thought that there were a lot of young people at this site with a lot of time on their hands. No dictionary....maybe. They give very short answers to debates which warrant much broader answers or explanations. They obviously don't have a clue. You are not alone

Its worth noting the power of the tabloids as well, the Sun headline gets seen by an estimated 7m people a day (note, this isnt just the people buying the paper) It is short, punchy and well written and in just a few words it conveys the spirit of what Murdoch Inc wants the nation to believe.

The liberal majority needs to combat this, we need an independant sourse of information that appeals to the young and shows up the nazis for the scum they are

It's not only not knowing the difference,.....
I have today been in the company of a very old friend, a retired uni professor.He said that the modern uni entrants are completely ignorant of almost everything, they have to be taught mathematics, basic physics, and many things they SHOULD know before starting their courses. He said so much time is wasted going over basic stuff they should already know,how they ever got good enough grades for uni amazes him, and he spent 30 years teaching

YES! And it's not simply about immigration issues, by far. I'm only 22 myself, yet I'm appalled at the blatant ignorance and lack of critical thought exhibited by my peer group when discussing just about any pertinent issue. To boot, they typically take on an air of superiority about them, as if everything really is as simple as they believe it to be. Any half-intelligent person could poke holes in their arguments with half their thoughts tied behind their backs, but it's as if the right side of their brain is permanently disabled: they simply don't think in linear fashion. It'd be hiliarious if it weren't so damned SCARY.

I really must blame it on the schools, which are clearly abdicating their duties in history and civics. I count myself very fortunate for the opportunity to have home-schooled.

i'm fairly young and know that eu immigrants are from other eu states, illegal immigrants smuggle themselves in usually from countries outside the eu, as it can be difficult for them to obtain legal entry. and asylum seekers are people who we accept into the eu to keep them from persecution in the home countries.

the confusing one is bogus asylum seekers who don't get kicked out! another type of illegal immigrant but someone in authority once knew where they were but failed to get them on a plane...

No, you are not alone, however people love to jump to conclusions, add to stereotypes, and spread hate. Bigotry, racism (whatever you want to label it) is a disease it spreads rapidly through the uneducated masses, killing off crucial brain cells that regulate independent thought, compassion, understanding and tolerance. The result are spineless, brain dead herds of sheep that bray unintelligible nonsense together in unison. It is a shame, because there is no cure.

I'm 25 and don't know the exact difference, i could guess but don't know for sure. Am i ignorant or poorly informed? It wasn't really an issue when i was educated but seems to be worse now so i think people should know the difference.

Thank our government schools. They don't like well-educated people because they can make logical decisions on their own. They like to teach people to follow blindly instead of investigating facts on their own and, God forbid, getting both sides of a story before making a decision!

It's truly scary that these idiots might be in charge of something important when I'm old.
