I would have to say photographs. I make photographs that are published almost every day. Doing newspaper work I shoot beside a video camera on a lot of assignments. When attending a football game and a great catch or dive over the goal line is captured in still and video it is interesting to hear the comments over the next few days. The video might make the highlight reel and get played on the sports wrap up but the still image has more permanence. It can hang on the wall or be carried in a wallet. Video is great with the motion and sound but the peak point of action passes quickly. Super slow-motion allows the viewer to really see what happened. But all that really shows is a series of still photos in a chain motion. So I would have to say still photos. (I will also say the WTC attack was burned into my memory by video....but the guys raising the flag in the rubble is the one that motivated millions.)

Photographs, without doubt. Simply because the vast majority of people act very differently in front of a video camera. With a photograph, you can capture a moment at a precise monent of time.

Photo's capture a particular moment in time which will bring good or bad memories from it and video's are good to watch and reminisce about... It's hard to say which is most memorable... For me when i see photo's and video's from when i was younger it cheers me up because i did stupid poses for photo's and was always stupid in the video's... I've calmed down now and it's nice to look at both.

Videos- You get too see alot more of what was going on and it has better chances too refresh your memory because you get audio, not like in pictures. A picture is just a still frame basically, a video offers alot more, and has a lot higher chance of refreshing your memory. If you are unsure about what will be more memorable, then you can do a combination of both.

Sir Winston Churchill, a portrait by Yousef Karsh. Churchill walked
into the Canadian‘s studio with his usual cigar dangling from his
mouth. Karsh asked him to snub out the cigar, which he did not do,
so Karsh soon understood that by taking the cigar out without
consent, would bring the mad bulldog look to Churchill‘s features.
So he made Churchill believe that he was only going to brush him
up or straighten his tie, and stepped close with the hidden camera
plunger in hand and pulled the cigar out of Churchill‘s mouth,
Well, he got the bulldog grimacing face like no other picture ever
taken! Karsh quickly squeezed the plunger and the greatest
portrait of the greatest man was taken. It was published by Life
magazine, and as an amateur artist I painted the portrait which
hangs on my wall. After visiting Madame Toussad‘s museum in
London it is clear, to me, that the image of Churchill was taken
from that portrait. Google images "Churchill" and judge for yourself
I think you will agree.

Photos are more open to interpretation... they capture a single moment... expression... or thought.... someone can look at a shot of you smiling and wonder how or what that smile is for....
Videos capture the whole memory so there is no guess as to what happened....
everyone has their own preference.... I like being able to stare at a photo and just remember on my own...

Photos because you keep them in a drawer and only bring them out every 5 or ten years. Videos probably will not last that long or the Hardware for viewing them will change in 20 years. Keep your photos , they are precious.
