Actually I just got an urgent notice from the Poker Players Alliance. That total prick Bill Frist is currently trying to attach the Internet
Gambling Prohibition Act to a bill this very evening. The bill, which is about port security is expected to pass. So we have yet another example of evil politicians hiding their agenda under the guise of counter terrorism.
This bill is some scary stuff too. Forcing ISPs to lock people out of online gambling sites. Giving broad powers to the government to check bank accounts for evidence of online gambling. This is prohibition all over again folks. It is sad to see the Bush administration ravaging this great nation and imposing their twisted view of morality on the people.
Let us hope that these morality Nazis fail to get support for their plans to take away our freedom. Thankfully we are not far off election time. Perhaps if we can boot enough of them out of office we will get some semblance of freedom back once Bush is removed from office.

Some states have already outlawed it, but since the servers are overseas, all the states can do is go after players.
If online poker does become outlawed by the federal government, here's what you'll see:
1. The next World Series of Poker champ will get arrested.
2. The IRS will step up enforcement of overseas cash transfers.
3. The Feds will force the banks to become the police for this.
4. On line gambling will continue through services like Neteller.

No new legislation has been passed into law at the federal level, although the US house of representatives has passed a bill which is awaiting action in the senate.
There is also a mad dash by some members of Congress to get an online gambling ban attached to other non-gambling legislation. Only time will tell if that will happen.
It is possible, however, that you may live in a law that has a ban on internet gambling. You should check your local laws before deciding whether or not to participate.

The bill ZCT mentioned did pass and the biggest effect is that now it will be illegal to transfer money, via credit card or electonic funds transfer, to online gambling sites.
