You are correct that Buddhism is older than Christianity, as are most of the religions in the world today. The difference is that we have a written record going all the way back to the creation of the world, and an unbroken genealogy recorded as well....right up to the time of Christ, and the end of the Hebrews 'favored status' as the 'Chosen People', but like in the time of Jesus Jewish people didn't want to believe, even when confronted with what could only be miracles....like raising the man Lazarus after he had been dead FOUR DAYS! and many other astonishing works. As far as similar beliefs, There are similarities, but then they are difficult to find in the Bible itself, which condemns 'pagan' beliefs and warns of dire consequences in trying to mix the two. Buddhism has more in common with the Babylonians than true bible based faith. It is most unfortunate that many 'brands' of Christianity seem to have no problem incorporating paganistic practices into what should be pure worship of the Almighty, in opposition to what is clearly stated a Christian's position on this ought to be.

The early , un-edited Christianity, had a lot in common with Buddhism, simply because they were two beliefs that equally sincerely sought the Truth. As Christianity became seized by those in power and it became a political instrument, the core of the teachings was obliterated with statements that invited the subservience of the masses. That is when the more serious divisions between Christianity and Buddhism started developing. Christianity became subject to a dogma, but Buddhism continued to learn about the Divine from within (a person's heart).
The good news is that you may now read "Rational Spirituality" on the Dhaxem website, which conveys the true teachings of Christ, in perfectly clear and logical terms, and stripped back of any illogical doctrine or dogma.

Jesus said that He was the way the truth and the life and that no one could come to the Father apart from Him. The eternal God of Heaven is the source of all truth and it is not in his will for the humans whom He created to be ignorant of how to live their lives. Buddhism has many teachings that are similar to the ones found in the Bible but wise as they may be, they don't make a person wise unto salvation and eternal life.
So to answer your question directly, Christianity didn't inherit any teachings from Buddhism. Buddhism got some of it's teachings from a divine source but they have been changed just enough to get people to think that all on their own they can be good and so they don't need the sacrifice of Christ on the cross to pay their sin debt which leads me to think that it's another trick of the evil one who wants to keep as many people away from God as he can and lead them to destruction as a way of getting back at God through those whom God would make his eternal children.

No, I don't think that GOD had to find his teachings in a manmade religion. He already knows the fullness of truth and can pass it on to His Church without reference to any organization designed and founded by His creatures.
