What is the average measurements of wine bottles ? I have been asked to build a wine rack and need to know.

The easiest thing you can do to be sure is to carry a tape measure to the nearest place that sells wine and take a few measurements...look specifically for 750 ml (or 75cl...same thing) wine bottles, and also for 1.5l (150cl) bottles, and 750 ml champagne/sparkling wine bottles. These are the 3 most common sizes you'll be building for.
Finally, if you find differences among the same volume bottle (e.g. one 750ml bottle fatter or longer than another) then take down the largest of each dimension so that you'll know that it'll fit them...it's better to be a little more generous with the size than too small.

most vine comes in a 1.5l bottle or a 750ml bottle, but the shape and lenght of the bottles can vary based on the producer of the wines. If you are making this for a gift, i would get a few bottles ( ask a local restaurant to give you the empties) and just make the holes uniform, then you can ensure that MOST bottles will fit.

eep! The bottles aren't all uniform. Do you just need average length or do you want some idea for diameter? When I get home tonight I can measure my wine rack and give you an idea of one way to do it.

A normal bottle is 750ml. But Champagne/sparkling wine bottles are thicker and wider, even though they're still 750ml. See what they're going to be storing.

Get a couple of empties for hands on information. You can empty them yourself too lucky you ! They have two average sizes with a couple of odd shaped bottles here where I live we have 750 mil and 1.5 my favorite .
