Oh wow, I'm so glad there's only one "can't think for myself" Michael Moore disciple who has posted above me. Reading any more of those would have just been exceedingly painful.
Questioner, here's your answer:
(1) Pakistan has always regarded Afghanistan as being within its sphere of influence. Either the Pakistanis dominate Afghanistan, or a strong Afghanistan sees a resurgence in the various frontier tribes becoming more and more assertive, leading to Islamabad losing a big chunk of its real estate to those tribes whose resources they've been ripping off for years.
(2) The Taliban is a creation of the Pakistani ISI, their military intelligence arm. The Taliban waged warfare against the various Mujahideen players after the Soviet Union left Afghanistan. Essentially, the Taliban caught the various guerilla leaders with their pants down and took over most of the country with Pakistani guidance. That the Pakistanis have been skimming off the top of American aid to the Mujahideen during the entirety of the Soviet war in Afghanistan enabled the ISI to save itself up enough of a nest egg to fund its own militant guerilla movement without having to use Pakistani troops in any capacity (all busy trying to face down India over Kashmir) and without breaking the bank.
(3) There is absolutely no way that the various training camps will close. The Pakistanis barely have control of their frontier provinces as it is, but they won't let the Americans clean house and rile the frontier tribes up either. What they derive advantage from is by the most motivated (and therefore dangerous) fighters to go over the border and engage NATO troops, since fighting a war with a nuclear India isn't an option, even over Kashmir. This bleeds pressure away from the Pakistani military, since they figure (as in the Soviet years) if the tribes are busy trying to kill the Westerners in their midst, then they won't notice the Pakistanis sucking away the natural gas deposits the tribes own (and don't get fair compensation for).
(4) With the unemployment rate for adult males in the region sky-high and a replacement birthrate that's seen at least three decades worth of serious growth, there's no shortage of recruits for the Taliban - and certainly not for the low-tech warfare they can afford. What would really be nice is for the American government to say enough is enough, cement a firm alliance with a nuclear India, crush the Pakistani military's nuts and illegal dictatorship run by Pervez Musharraf, but the chances of this happening anytime soon for various reasons are slim to none.
But hey, the dinner could be very, very good. I'd love to do taste-testing in the kitchen. Maybe palm a few dishes for myself.

They are currently weakening the Taliban day-by-day. But if America hands the White House and/or Congress over to the cut-and-run liberal Democrats the Taliban and bin-Laden will quickly regain control of Afghanistan and Karzai will be found dead shortly thereafter. The liberals are just waiting patiently in the wings to get power and help World Terrorism defeat America. It's Priority #1 on their "we hate America" agenda.

If the two countries will work together toward that goal , it should weaken the Taliban. We can only hope they will follow through.
