First of all don't generalize. I drive a mini-van and I have a lead foot. I'm usually the one passing everybody. I don't think it matters what people drive, some people just drive slow. However, many people that have minivans have children on board, so it's more important to drive more cautiously with them in the van. I drive a mini van and have kids but I definitely drive better with them in it. (not under the limit though)

I drive a mini van and I can saftly say "you are not behind me!!" I don't drive slow or under the speed limit. Anything but. I have a lead foot that would sink a battle ship. I think a lot of people who are driving vans don't know how to drive anything larger than a go- cart and that could be part of the problem. Or maybe their feet don't reach the peddles. Have you ever noticed that all old people drive Buick's. usually silver or white ones to match their hair. Or people who drive large cars do know how to park them. I should write a book.I could call it "Who's driving me crazy"
want to help me write it.

I wrote a whole blog on this subject. Minivans, Trucks, SUV's. Just be glad when they crash they will roll over and die.
They are the same dumbaS$es who ride in the fast lane (thats the LEFT for you idiots who never passed driver's ED) and go like 50mph and do not yield to faster traffic. Oh, and complain about gas prices when they drive a gas guzzling truck.
"More accidents are caused by careless speed deamons than by cautious drivers... "
-You drive slow because you are unsure of your ability, I drive fast because I am able to plan ahead and mentally predict where objects will be based on road conditions. More wrecks are caused by people who cannot drive than those who are confident in their abilities. Your analogy is like saying NASCAR drivers and airplane pilots are really wreckless. No they are better at having situational awareness. Speed is relative.
AUTOBAHN case and point.
Learn to drive.

I wouldn't be so quick to over-generalize. I have a van and I don't feel I drive slow. My average speed is 65-70. However, maybe many drive slower because there are kids in the car, which is usually why families have vans in the first place.

Becaus minivans are just that, miniature vans, which have a high center of gravity. Load a bunch of stuff in them and they get really tippy to drive. You feel like they're going to tip over going around corners, so the drivers drive them like they would a truck - slow and easy.

Most of the doinks I've seen in minivans around here drive as if they were frustrated NASCAR wanna-be's. They'll ride your bumper at 80 and flash their lights at you even if you're passing a long line of trucks going 60.

~~For one thing.... larger viehicals usually take longer to stop at higher speeds, for another thing Mini-Vans are usually owned by people hauling precious cargo... (their children), for another thing, some mini-vans have small engines to concerve on gas, which makes it more difficult to go at faster speeds without burning up their transmission or motors, some people choose to drive at lower speeds because of road conditions, not knowing the area they are in that well, are on vacation sight seeing, are not in a rush to get where they are going, maybe rush hour traffic, weather conditions, some choose to actually follow the speed limit laws and not speed. there are many reasons to go slower.... however blanket generalizations only prove to upset and anger people, more than slow traffic upsets people. More accidents are caused by careless speed deamons than by cautious drivers... the higher the speed of the crash the more likelyhood of death in accidents.~~

I don't know who "those people" are, but I rarely drive the speed limit.
I usually drive 5 to 10 miles over it.

I think its usually because familes buy minivans, and the driver probably has his wife nagging him to slow down all the time. Either that or they have so many kids the van is weighted down.
