It's a really rotten disease to have and it's stolen so much of me and my life. I am fortunate to have a husband that is sympathetic and good to me. He isn't one to read or research but he has listened to me and held me when I've cried. My sister has this stuff, too. Her husband just left because he was tired of hearing her complain - he is one of the most self-centered people I know. She has nutured and nursed him through some really awful times and he won't return it.
Education is all you can provide and it's hard because there isn't anything to SEE that you are in pain or compromised in any way. Like you can't make the horse drink, you can't make him read or study or to nuture you.

Maybe if he went to the doctor with you or one of the fibromyalgia support groups. This problem is universal among fibromyalgia sufferer's so please know you are not alone. Maybe he'll come round. I so hope so for your sake.

Tough One. I have it to and at times its quite bad. and So many people think its all in your head. that totally ticks me off. The hard thing is that there are no out ward symptoms. Its hard. My husband is pretty good, I'm lucky. because i was healthy until I starting to have symptoms of Fibro. So he thought something was wrong. I was first diagnosed about 10 years ago. The way I describe it is like a coming down with the flu feeling but never getting the full blown flu, The aches like you have been hit by a train, The fatigue is awful. then theres the perpetual feeling that your head is in a fog. The only thing is think is get some info for him to read, there's some good books and info on the web from the arthritis foundation and fibro foundation. Take him to the Dr. with you. So he can here from him that it is a actual illness. Good luck, and hang in there.

Hi Rhonda, I was diagnosed with fibromyalgia about three years ago after nearly three years of vague symptoms that were definitely debilitating. What you need to do first is find pain control, and once you are able to lessen or eliminate your pain, the physical and mental fatigue will subside as well. Your doctor might prescribe narcotics of various kinds, but there are non-narcotic OTC and homeopathic remedies that are effective. I take 800 mg. of Aleve and a 1000-mg. flaxseed oil capsule every night at bedtime to be able to walk the next day, and I take tablets of Arnica, a homeopathic herb, as needed for flareups. Check out the links below for helpful information. I also tell people that just like Yogi Berra said, half the battle is 90 percent mental. I don't have a problem with fibromyalgia--fibromyalgia has a problem with me! Hang in there.

Note to Rosie: Thanks a ton for the other link as well. I've bookmarked the site and will definitely check it out more very soon.

I have fibro. For many years, I didn't know what was wrong with me, then I was finally diagnosed...Long story short, I have learned to cope with my fibro by getting plenty of sleep, exercise and reducing stress. I sometimes forget that I even have it until a flare hits...then I pamper myself as much as possible.

Well, my husband has been as supportive as any husband could be. I don't think he has completely understood, but he doesn't try to make me feel guilty or anything. I think educating your family members is a good idea, but it won't work if they're not willing to learn.

Best of luck to you!
