Apart from this so called book of god, is there any real proof? I mean who actually wrote it. If "Harry Potter" didnt have the author on the cover, could this also be proof that magicians and all other characters in the book exist. Do you think the bible could be a practical joke? As the mild mannered janitor once said "Could Be".

The better questions is when the bible was made where did all the money come from to make it, people were very poor back then. Many scripts were found and yet only some were chosen as real and others fake. When the time came to make the bible a man at some point or another would have had to approved the spending of founds for it. Would he, the provider of said funds want to include or leave out what ever he disliked or add things he believed was true? Could it not have been a set of ideals set in place by a few very smart men who wanted to tell a story that would get people to change their ways of living and become a more controllable group of people? I don't buy into this book was made by who ever because I say so and a lot of other people say so too. Joke probably not. Book written by very smart men to control the minds and money of people weather for good or not sounds more possible then some dude you cant see or hear made this now you should blindly do every thing it says in there :)

Fiction with some historical facts... very few facts and not in the places where facts are really needed though.

That's the point, if we took the Bible away from them they'd have nothing to argue with. It's called circular reasoning: the Bible is true because it is the word of God, it is the word of God because it says it is. Am I the only one who sees the flaws in this reasoning?

Monkeyboy, you could not have ever looked or even searched for eveidences regaurding the Bible or you would not be asking that question.Any unbaised honest person searching can find volumes of literal, factual and very convincing proofs.Jesus was a real historical figure, even non bible believing historians will admit Jesus was in fact a real person and did in fact die on a cross.Jesus claimed to be God over and over which was one of the reasons He was killed by His own people.I wonder if you have ever read it.It changed my life and only God can do that.

Both...sorta. The Bible is actually a library in that it's a collection of books. Some of it is expressly historical (like the Gospels or the Pentetuch), some of it is prose/poetry and teaching (like the Psalms or Proverbs). But there are many authors and they all contributed down through ages. One thing's for sure though, it *is* (one of the *most* reliable) historical documents, naming real places and people in history. See the link.

There is no way one can prove to you that the Bible is truth in this format. It would take more than one good sit down session to explain God, and faith and mystery and eternity and on and on to someone who has already decided it is not true. You have to do some soul searching in order to find out for your self. Creation is self apparent, it couldn't have come from anything but a supreme being. Once you recognize that indeed there is a supreme being, that would be the beginning of the salvation of your immortal soul. I will pray for you.

You are going to get a LOT of "religious people" on here who are compassionate that will give you some great, and rude, answers!

I just wanted to reply to your comment about Harry Potter. There is already a modern day book that was written that people believe in and follow. It is the book "Dianetics" by L.Ron Hubbard. The religion is called "Scientology".

You make a great point and I am not going to answer it because you will get plenty of answers from others!

i once thought of the 'practical joke' situation

but it cant happen

OT was written thousands of years Before NT, many battles and places are confirmed that are refferd to in the OT

also the Nt was written by different people at different times. Jesus of Nazareth is a confirmed real person, so thats not even a question.

so if it was a joke, it would require thousands of years with a butload of people all in on it, and then the people who wrote the newer parts of it would have to be so stubborn as to not admit to it and die painful deaths.

but of course, many parts arent literal, more metaphor and allegory, symbols that represent things with actual events added in to create a confusing craker, parts such as genesis(epic of giglamesh affirms flood story) and revelations

I love this question. The bible is indeed fiction. Some very imaginative men who desired power and control wrote the letters of the bible. A good man named Jesus may have lived, I am not disputing that possibility. His teachings were certainly distorted by men with an agenda of their own.

Definitely fiction. It's a good thing too. God commands the deaths of over 2.5 million people in the Bible. It's good to know that those deaths never happened, and that the majority of people who have ever lived are not being eternally tortured.
