I want to pierce a spray can, air duster can, or similar, from the bottom. It says on it that that can may blow up. How do I prevent this?

If you are going to do alot of them, make a special tool that is something like what is used to crush cans. It has a cylinder with an open bottom except for a point which punctures the bottom of the can. Use the lever and plunger to push the aerosol can down onto the point and the gases exhaust down and away from you and the can is held securely until completly exhausted.

As a quickie I guess you could put a nail in a vice and push the bottom of the can down onto the nail, making sure the can is pointed away from you in case it's got more propellant in it than you anticipate!

Good Luck

I also like the guys BB gun idea, as long as the can is secured somehow so it doesn't fly around!

If, of course, you are talking paint cans, the only way to go is with the special unit I described so the paint will go down into a container beneath the puncturing unit.

once the can is completely empty you can crush or pierce it ( but not if it contained a flammable compound ) the warning is due to the pressure it used to contain and the flammability of the propellent

the best way to make sure it is empty is to force a pointed object ( nail ) through the spray valve opening

a good start would be to chill it, thus reducing the pressure inside. But, then again, the materials could contract at different rates causing failure lol.

Sounds to me like you want to build a highly toxic cannon. yes?

Because you're being vague about what exactly you want to pierce.

kay.. you know that guy you saw one day who had 2 fingers missing?

That's you after you do whatever stupid thing you're considering lol.

too funny! :D rofl

there is no good or safe way, and anything you try might give you a trip to the hospital.. but I'd start a fire out in the woods away from everyone and throw it in the fire and hide behind a tree till i heard the kaboom :)

It'll be interesting to find a safe "home-made" way...
