A woman I know told me this very thing today-'You know that you're going to Hell don't you?' I'm like 'No I didn't hear that, who told you?' She did not think that was funny- 'It's no laughing matter, you are a nice person and I don't want to see you go to Hell.' I said- 'I'd hate to see that too.' At this point she's getting kind of angry with me and tells me that 'all Catholics and Jews' are going to Hell. I burst out laughing and said 'Well, we'll have one Hell of a party down there I guess!' And she walked off. Later I'm thinking to myself- oh my gosh, she was really serious!! I guess I shouldn't have laughed but I couldn't help it! What should I have said to her?

*This woman is the source of my frustration and why I posted the anti-catholicism??? Q*

There is no easy response to an ignorant statement like that. One way that I have found effective is to just politely thank them for their concern and tell them you are talking with God about that very subject. Then ask them for prayers. If that doesn't shut them up nothing will. There is no way you can convince someone like her that Catholicism is not a cult.

Well, if you are Jewish, you could say: "No, I'm not because there is no hell (why capitalize it?) in my religion. And I feel just as strongly about that as you do about your belief and I am perfectly happy with who I am and would never want to be anything but a Jew." And if you aren't, you said the proper thing.
"She just wants to share Jesus with you and by you rejecting Her Jesus she takes it as personal rejection. She loves you enough to share what she believes. I don't want to see you in Hell either." Don't you just love that? How can a total stranger "love" you when she doesn't know you at all? And doesn't it seem condescending or patronizing to you? It's like saying to you: "Hey, you are too confused or stupid to see the truth so I have to tell you what that truth is and, of course, you should believe me and change your ways." How arrogant!

I just usually smile and say one of the following, depending on how much I want to shut the person up:

*"Yeah, I reckon I am."

*"Thanks for the concern."

*"You know, I don't believe in Hell therefore what you just said has absolutely no meaning to me."

*"At least I won't have to listen to people tell me I'm going to Hell anymore."

*"You know, I wish I had a dollar for every time somebody told me this."

I don't think you should feel at all bad about how you reacted; that woman showed a sever lack of respect for your beliefs and feelings, why should you worry about whether or not she was serious?

I would have said you are miss informed, that is a very broad statment to make, and how do you not what is in those peoples hearts only G-D knows that. I am Christian and no Christian should make a statment like that, their are a lot of Jews that believe in Christ, and a lot of Catholics also that believe in him and have good hearts. Maybe she has never heard of Jews for Jesus.

i get that sometimes to they are really just trying to help because they truly believe that

I'm LDS or Mormon and I'm get that to
the truth is, is that they care for you enough to say something but they kinda do it in a mean way

now i dont care what religion you are as long as you are a good person i think god will love you and will help you.

Just tell them that's there opinion and not yours and if they wanna talk about religion they can just ask

good luck
on and i dont think your going to hell

Probably, "God Bless You , dear" or something else nice. But what I really like is that you were not mad at her nor did you claim she was 'shoving her religion down your throat' . Good example to set. And instead of attacking her beliefs you were concerned about unintentionally offending her. God Bless You

This is what I tell those people:

Any god that would send good people to hell for guessing the wrong faith without lending any recognizable guidance does not deserve to be worshiped.

'we'll have a hell of a party' rofl

anyways, heres a good response i thought of:

"excuse me, are you God? well you must be, cause God and only God can judge me to heaven or hell. Jesus says very clearly judge and be judged and by your words you will be comdemned and by your words you will be acquitted. so you might wanna stop worring about me and start worring about yourself, who apartly likes to pick and choose what to believe."

o and you can also be like 'ill see you there' or 'back at ya'

My response would be

Doesn't the bible state that only God knows who is and isnt going to Hell?

And then, be prepared to show her where it says that. Keep a tiny bible in your car or purse if you are going to see her again.
