Hi can anyone tell me if the EMT basic course is available online anywhere? (In the US)

No. EMT-Basic is as much about the practical skills as it is the written material. You might be able to learn enough through an online course to pass the written portion of the exam, but you would fail at the skills portion. And as far as being able to take what you learned to the street...
You need the hands-on experience that comes with being taught in a classroom, by real-life instructors, and by working on mannequins with actual equipment.
I don't believe that there is any online course that will meet the standards set by the National Registry of EMTs (the certifying authority for EMS).
There are lots of EMT-basic courses that are part time. I'm sure you can find one that will work around your schedule.
