Is it illegal to drive in Ontario, Canada without insurance?? ok, me and my friend were driving to the gym last night when we accidentally rear ended our friends who were in the left hand turn lane infront of us. My friend was driving and couldn't stop because the brakes were absolutley drenched from driving through some enormous and unavoidable puddles in terrible weather. Our friends in front of us who he hit have insurance on their car but my friend who hit them has no insurance. We didn't file a police report or anything because we all know each other, but the insured car's insurance company phoned the rear-ender last night with a claim of approx $5000 on the hit car. No injuries. What happens next ??

Yes, liability coverage is required in all Canadian provinces. Even if it wasn't, you'd still be liable for the damages.

You pay the insurance company for the damage to your friend's car, that's what happens next!

And your friend needs to learn how to deal with wet weather driving as well, as there's no excuse for that kind of accident.
