Someone else's authority= escape from personal responsibility.
or am I reading it wrong? It's algebra, right?. So we could add or subtract responsibility to or from both sides of the equation and still have a valid result.
The trouble is that words are not as strictly defined as numbers are. Different people might have very different ideas of what religion means as a generic term and the same could be said for dependency, so adding other terms to both sides of the equation can help clarify the ambiguous terms.

It's really sad that you folks feel the need to be such bigots.

While it's true that religion has it's fair share of "joiners" so does every other organization. From football, to reading clubs.

Many people use their churches as no more than a social call. But that doesn't mean everyone does.

Stop being so judgemental. Some of the most intelligent people on this planet are deeply religious.

Most likely. It gives people something to believe in. A reason to exist. "Why are we here?" is a tough question. It's easy to believe somebody put us here to achieve some purpose. Even though there is a total lack of evidence to support such a claim. People want to feel connected and that they're part of something larger than life. Not me. I'm perfectly content to be circling a lonely star on a pale blue dot all alone.

well, i suppose, in a way. not having a religion is dependency on yourself (which some might consider type of [nontraditional] religion...) religion is a dependency on something other than yourself (hopefully something better).

Sure,

But not in the way you are thinking.

I depend on God to get me through every day.

We all do, some fight it and some don't, some accept the grace of God and some reject it.

It is really simple.

Peace!

You betcha! It is the ultimate crutch. The ultimate in shirking responsibility. The ultimate in letting go of personal power and intergrity. Religion is most simply put....an atrocity.
