How about leaning over and saying There's a girl in my english class I like, shes beautiful and seems kinda nice, I wanna get to know her better but can never seem to get anything going, what should I try and talk about? That should get the ball rolling.

Try talking about upcoming events that you two may have them same interest in ask her what she likes to do for fun and if none of her answers interest you try making a suggestion of something entertaining that you do and invite her to do something new with you. after you do that try and invite yourself to watch her if she plays a sport of does something active. Basically make your two worlds collide, put yourself where she is, I don't mean stalk her though just try to show you're interested in her don't make up phony conversation she'll see right through that! Keep a balance between curiosity/getting to know her and getting in her business! Hey rjinsanjo has the perfect idea and the other guy who mentioned something similar. that's perfect it's kind, honest, and she'll like the humor!

Conversation in this day and age tends to be overrated. What you need to do is to look over at her, place your two fingers by your lips and move your tongue in and out like a lizard. Not only will she get the message but it will be a terrific ice-breaker. Remember, humor is the number attribute.

The daily class lecture. That way you know you have to read and be ready for an intelligent discussion.

The best question is " Tell me some thing about you." People are really good at talking about the thing they know the most about.

Watch her carefully, watch for something you guys might have in common...music, reading, partying, sports, listen to her talk and how she acts....once you know you can say something then say it....don't be scared, just act casually and show her you are sure of yourself.....Good Luck..

Play dumb about something that's being taught in the class and ask her if she can break it down for you.
