Your right, we are what we eat (so to speak) and if we feed the old man of sin he will grow strong and then we wonder why we are so weak in our faith and assurance.

I think it mostly may happen without forethought. We are imersed and saturated by a culture that is energized by a belief that we live in a closed universe and therefore, to this culture, nothing exists beyond the physical world so if that be so, nothing really matters because this, here and now, is all there is. So, (to that mindset) why not live a life of pretty much anything goes.
With that being the majority mindset that surrounds Christians, it is not too surprising that unconsciously, unintentionally, and even unknowingly tihose attitudes tend to creep into our (Christian) day-to-day thinking and behavior.......
Hope these thoughts help....

Christians should mind their belief in the one God.
those of the church who come from this world having an idea of three Divine beings cannot be admitted into heaven,
since their thought wanders from one Divine being to another; and it is not allowable there to think three and say one.{1} Because in heaven everyone speaks from his thought, since speech there is the immediate product of the thought, or the thought speaking. Consequently, those in this world who have divided the Divine into three, and have adopted a different idea of each, and have not made that idea one and centered it in the Lord, cannot be received into heaven, because in heaven there is a sharing of all thoughts, and therefore if any one came thinking three and saying one, he would be at once found out and rejected. But let it be known that all those who have not separated what is true from what is good, or faith from love, accept in the other life, when they have been taught, the heavenly idea of the Lord, that He is the God of the universe. It is otherwise with those who have separated faith from life, that is, who have not lived according to the precepts of true faith (Heaven and Hell n.2).

So what you're saying is that most Christians do not act like Christians should? You're right. I know that I don't. It's definately something to work on.
The issue is the level of temptation that surrounds us. The less temptation = the less sinful activity.
In this day and age, everything on TV is sex, drugs and rock and roll. It makes our job a lot harder.

I believe that so many today that consider themselves to be christians are far too comfortable living in this world system. While we are taught to be no part of this world, the reality is we must live in it and the exposure to information of all types is all consuming. I do believe that God through the power of the Holy Spirit works in the lives of those he has selected and brings them to hightened spiritual awareness. Sometimes that working can be painful, but it is this awareness that gives the practicing Christian the ability to see the destructive influences of the media in our culture and the dicipline to abstain from it.

I agree with you totally.
Romans 1:32Who knowing the judgment of God, that they which commit such things are worthy of death, not only do the same, but have pleasure in them that do them.
It says here that even if we take pleasure in those who do evil like watching violence, sexual immorality on TV etc. and we find pleasure in it we are counted as those who are doing the act. I believe strongly with you that as Christians we should shun these evil things, also mixing christian music with worldly music like hip hop and rap for example.

you are absolutely correct
a lot times the devils slips in and tempts us all i know that
but i do strictly monitor all my child sees hears says does eats goes etc....
i am more lax with myself i admit because i have to work onit-- i have no excuse i am just not always very strong
but more christians should take the foot out of their mouth and practice what they preach so to speak
it is a continual work in progress
and modern culture does not make it easy--with a little discipline and struture and prayer we can be the christians god wants us to be

I don't even watch the news. Mostly, I watch Discovery, Science, and History Channels. The network junk doesn't interest me at all. I find it boring.

I totally agree, there is no filthy stuff like that going on in my house. I pray to the Lord to keep filth away from my home.. While I can tell you this, you won't be having to much company when you do this. I truly believe this prayer is granted and he keeps all the nasty things away from my home, and I am truly grateful to him for it..

You mean like the good christians who homeschool so their kids won't get warped like the real world? You know, the kids who when they finally get out of their cocoons go ape crazy and end up all messed up. I want my kids to know what's going on so they can deal with it. That doesn't mean I let them watch Nip & Tuck, but I'm not putting them in a bubble either. They need to be able to deal with this world, and they can't do that inside of a bubble. I do insulate my kids from some things, but I'm certainly not putting them in the position of going off to college with no concept of the real world.
