Hello Elizabeth, I been on effexor xr seeing that 2002. If theres any way viable get off this med. Most Drs. Need supply mental meds for the duration of pregancy. Effexor xr IS the worst antidepresant to stop. As others mentioned you have got to get off slowly. I'm step by step getting off myself. High blood stress, reminiscence loss , liver harm are some part results. PLUS many different. Email me through Y&A if you wish to have. Jim in N.C.

I have been taking Effexor XR for a long time and yes, it definately makes me tired. My doctor claims that it helps with appetite suppressing but I don't think it does. I was thin before I started Effexor and now I'm pretty heavy. I don't know if it slows down your metabolism but I do know that it makes you tired.
I am also taking Wellbutrin which is supposed to help suppress the appetite as well. I haven't noticed my appetite being suppressed.

It took Effexor XR & my energy got up & went.
I didn't gain weight from it thou.
Everybody is different. Just ask your doctor to try you on something else. You might have to change several times b/f you find something that works for you.

Okay, this is going to sound weird, but dont trust ANYTHING your doctor says about effexor. My doctor told me a few things that might happen when i got on it, but i slowly developed so many side effects, you would not believe it. I actually had the opposite side effects that youre talking about, I could eat whatever i wanted and i still lost like 12 pounds on it. I was also VERY hypersexual (which wasn't good for a 17 year old girl). My skin was always sensitive, if i missed a pill i had a kind of cold "skin crawling" sensation. i was ALWAYS tired on that medicine, and to add to that it made me VERY flighty. I forgot details about EVERYTHING. I am a very good student, and because i was on the medication, I would forget about any homework i had, i lost my purse, 3 textbooks, and lots of other important objects. I ALWAYS felt like something was "wrong" in my stomach, like i was constipated or about to puke. Not to mention the fact that i had "brain shocks" if i forgot a pill. My doctor told me none of this was associated with the medicine, but they all disappeared mysteriously after i got off of it. I could go on for hours about how bad this pill is, but my point is, yes, if theres something new thats wrong with you, i can BET its because of that stupid horrible medicine. Just as a side note, coming off of that drug was HELL. I still had pain and brain shocks and dizziness 2 months after my last pill.
