my boyfriend smokes almost two packs a day. he has a history of cancer in his family and I'm worried. I've been asking him to quit for three years now. Should I keep nagging him? What can I do?

i smoke. all i can tell you is to stop nagging him. if he wants to quit he will. suggest getting out together more in places that dont allow smoking- movies, malls, things like that. dont tell him thats your intention though! if worse comes to worst then give him an ultimatum!

I don't htink you, yourself can make him stop smoking, that's a nice suggestion from you to him, obviously for the last few years. You can try to deprive him of things you have, say sex, or kisses, but He may give up on you altogether, i don;t know you or him, so ignore that. But, what you should do, is stress the fact that cancer runs in his family, show him pictures of black lungs, show him the money he spends in a week on smokes, a year, etc, plus yellow teeth, nasty smelling car, clothes. You'd think i DO NOT smoke, sorry, 1 pack Newports/day i need to quit~

2 packs a day is a pretty large habit so if you really love him you should keep trying to get him to quit. I am also a smoker and I was up to about a pack a day, I descided about a year or so ago that i really needed to quit but quitting seemed a bit to overwelm ing to me so i descided to try cutting down first. I ended up being able to cut my cigarette smoking down by half. I went with the idea of quality over quantity and I switched over to the higher quality "luxury" cigarettes like Nat Sherman or American Spirit. These cigarettes also usually additive free and although they say that this doesnt mean a safer cigarette it did seem like It was much easier to smoke less of these additive free luxury type cigarettes. Im just offering some advice if your bf will not consider quitting completely maybe at least you can get him to cut down first. It all boils down to whether or not he himself really wants to quit. You may also get him to try speaking to his doctor about it, the doctor maybe able to prescribe something to help him quit, conseling may also help as well. Good luck

well if you two live in seperate house when you go to see him stay outside and tell him that you can't breath with all that smoke in the air. You could make him chose between you and the smokes but chances are that he would choose the smokes. Tell him that you are afraid that you will lose him do to a lung diseis and that you don't want to start a family with those kind of chances for lung problems. best of luck to ya girl.

No dont keep nagging him it will only make him do it more. Just sit down with him and tell him how you feel and that you are worried for his health. And explain to him your reasons. If you truly care for him and maybe love him and are scared for him to get cancer tell him how you feel.

Nope I've been trying to get my husband off for the past 20 years and cancer runs in his family too. I used to nag but that led to fights so what's the point.

I would quit nagging and leave. He is going to suffer a painful death that will be hard on everyone. If he doesn't know that he is killing himself and you by now, it does not seem he will ever get the message.

You can dump his sorry *** and tell him that you don't want yourself or your kids to be reliant on a long-term drug addict. If he dies at age 38 and you've got two babies, what are you going to do? If he knows all the dangers and risks associated with smoking, obviously all he cares about is himself and his pleasure--I wouldn't waste my time. Don't turn yourself into a "nag" or a "*****" over his unwillingness to see common sense.

nagging won't help, he has to want to quit. However, you can tell him no smoking around you or in your house etc.
