I am used to using a gloss enamel paint brand called Testors for craft projects. I was wondering if there was a way I could use acrylic paint but make it glossy somehow? I am not familiar with acrylic paint so can I add a gloss varnish to it, ie. mixing it into my acrylics to make them glossy beforehand or spraying the varnish as a final coat to gloss the craft items? Any advice much appreciated!

hi, both winsor& newton and daler/rowney (two of the leading art brands) do a soluable gloss varnish in a brush on or the same in an areorol. (both non yellowing and are only about 5.00) i work in an art shop and there are several product that are cheaer/more expensive but the soluable gloss varnish is brill and can also be used on oils.if its just a cheap project/sample you are doing, depending what surface you are using you can even use yaught varnish. good luck!

For the highest gloss, use Tar Gel by Golden. Mix acrylic colors into it...weird stiff but extremely glass like when dry. Else you can paint it, then cover it with plastic resin, a two-part craft mix you can buy at Michaels or other craft stores.

If you going to paint on nonpetoliam product like paper, wood, Bord, clay, plaster of Paris, cloth etc.in the first you have to give a cot of gum like Fevicol, Vemicol, or any water proof glues to make the surface non-absorbing. Then you work by Acrylic using any medium. After it dry you give one or two cotes of varnish.
