T.V.'s operated by remote control never really turn off --- they are just on "standby". Your remote control actuates a circuit inside the T.V. which lets the picture tube be seen. A new remote control may fix it, but it is more likely that your T.V. has a bad Silicon Controlled Switch (SCS) which must be replaced by a repairman.

Get a new universal remote it's only $9.

It's probably the remote. The same thing happened to me. I bought one of those "one for all" remotes at Wal Mart for about $8.00 and its been working ever since.

If it's 10 years old already it sound like you need to go TV shopping. Could call a repair shop and see if they have any ideas/suggestions as to what it could be.

You probely need the buttons cleaned out! I had that problem before! And I took it to the place i got it and they cleaned it out! Where did you get it?
