first you have to get the bike moving in a steady speed ,
when the bike is moving,

you need to pull the handle bar upwards, imagine you are yanking a cover up from a trash can! once the front wheel is not touching the ground. (ensure both feet is planted firmly on the pedals)

once you have pull the handlebar upwards, STRAIGHT AWAY push the handlebar foward with force like you are punching someone. that force from that push will make your rear end of the bike comes up from the ground.

think of a L shape but upside down !!

Well the above answers are ok but not to detailed. First get a little speed. You can do them sitting still but going foward some helps. You can make yourself a bunny hopping stand by using 2 2x4s and a piece of plywood for each to make a base. You then put nails every inch up the board. Then use a doll rod to sit on the nails. This gives you a goal to get over which helps somtimes. Now to do the hop you need to pull up on the bars pretty hard to get your front end coming up high. Then unweight your legs and push a little foward on the bars. Unweighting just means taking the pressure off your legs. When you do this the little bit of pushing foward will help the back end of the bike come up. Do not push foward to hard or to early because you will cause yourself to drop and can take height off of the hop. As you get better you wont have to push at all as you learn to unweight youself more. Also when you unweight youself you need to tuck your legs up into your body. This will give your bike more room to come up. With practice you will get higher and higher. I have gotton to 32inches before the highest I have ever seen has been 47inches. Hope that helps.

Dude, I'm having the same struggle, my bro is really good and trying to teach me, the guy above me is kinda saying what my bro says but didn't mention that you need to point your toes to the floor to try and scoop the back wheel up whilst pushing the bars.
My bro reckons it's important to stay level (parallel to ground) so he suggests only lifting the front by an inch or two, and trying to match it with the back, then progressively get higher to maintain a level hop.

And here I thought it was a dance done in the 50's. Guess, I am showing my age.
