I don't see how changing from coal to wind and from gas to electric is going to hurt the economy, if that's your arguement.

Wind cannot generate anywhere near enough energy to replace coal. If you think it can then you are not in touch with reality. If you REALLY think it can, then you should buy yourself a windmill and disconnect your house from the power grid.

So I say the switch would mean severely limiting energy use. So there is a heavy cost to do that and we want to be sure we are not wasting that cost needlessly.

The question is, how many wind farms will be needed to replace all the coal plants? What about nuclear power, would you opt to shut these down as well? If by saying we should switch from gas to electric, you're refering to vehicle power, then our electrical consumption will jump considerably. In such a case, we're going to have to provide electricity by other means than just wind farms, as coal is a very widely used hydrocarbon for producing electricity.

And how are you going to GENERATE that electricity, genius? You liberals sure are anxious to spend other peoples' money on your pipe dreams. Why not wake up and realize that technology IS answering the call, you just need to be patient. It's not like mankind really CAN affect the global atmosphere to any extent. The SUN demonstrates a direct relationship with your data. Why can't you believe what you SEE???

Because change costs time and money. Until the nonrenewible reasources are depleated there will always be some people using gasolene powered cars and coal power plants. People will continue doing what they want as long as there are options.

That's exactly what I say. While it's not exactly sure what causes global warming, the fact is, that it's happening. Why not take preventative measures just in case?

EDIT: Suspendor, you're concerned about spending too much money? The Iraq War is costing over $2 billion every week. Out of the taxpayer's pockets.

I am Jack's Rage. I'm not going to cater to some planet. Why be safe? I never wear a condom with prostitutes so why would I consider protection in other cases?

the earth is in a constant state of change... for us to even attempt "keep it the way it is" is frigging selfish and obnoxious...

What about all the new species that will evolve in a warmer climate?? Don't they have a right to evolve and exist?
