The reflux will not go away. Medicines that tame this problem will wear out in time. The best thing is to steer clear of acidity in food and liquids.

Have you tried lifestyle modification/diet modification? Try elevating the head of your bed 6 inches (NOT just pillows, use a foam wedge under the mattress). Avoid spicy food, chocolate, garlic, alcohol, etc. Are you on any other medication? Certain meds can relax the esophageal sphincter and worsen the problem. Also, if youre taking a PPI like nexium/prilosec/aciphex, you can also take a H2RA like pepcid or tagamet once a day. Make sure you have a barium swallow and get checked out for esophageal ulcers. Also if you have an infection causing the reflux (H. pylori), then you need a course of antibiotics PLUS acid stopping medication before you will be cured (think PrevPac). Good luck!

Yes. I have had reoccurring reflux for 15+ years. Don't give up. They keep coming out with better medications. I used to take Pepcid when it was by prescription only. Then that stopped working. Then I was on Prevacid. Then Protonix. Now I take Nexium and that still works well for me.

I started out with heartburn, as a teenager (rolaids). It turned into acid reflux disease (much worse) later on. Im in my forties now, I started with the purple pill six years ago and switched to Aciphex four years ago. I expect to use that for the rest of my life, but it works and has zero side affects. The weight loss of sixty lbs has helped tremendously as well.

I suffered from acid reflux for years. I'm told it damages the esophogus if left untreated. It took me probably a year or so to finally get relief. Now with the new drug Nexium it should shorten the time frame for relief considerably!

It should not of taken longer then 3 months to show signs of relief.
I use to take them ALL...."the little purple pill" the "little yellow one pro???" and finally I changed my diet, no wine....feel much better every now and then I have some problems....but- I used an old home remedy, suggested by someone. It was Apple Cyder Vinagar of all things. works like a charm.

If these meds are across the counter, see a doctor.
Meds like Nexxium are great, they will cure the problem and not just treat symptoms. If you're on prescription meds for the problem, just stay on them, decrease the amount of coffee and soft carbonated drinks that you drink.

I have heard and have known people who have found that drinking a glass of vineger (if you can tolerate it) helps ease or even get rid of bad heartburn. Maybe not cure it, but tried and true for some maybe it could work for you.

Sometimes antibiotics are necessary. Speak to your Doctor if after a few months improvement is not seen.
