I suppose you should go over and talk to them nicely - try to be friendly, cause that's how your most likely to get what you want. Ask them the same way you would ask a friend, hey man, why'd you do that? But, if the neighbor continues to be an *ss... my evil twin suggests that you take the garbage out of the can and place it on said neighbor's doorstep. Then put your can away in the garage. If this does not get the message across, my evil twin suggests that you dump the bag out on his doorstep next time. :->

This is where he complains to the city officials, and complains loudly. They should advise the neighbor that it is a by-law offence to dump your garbage anywhere other than IN HIS OWN GARBAGE CAN.
If they do it again, he can go to the police and have them charged with trespass.
The interesting point would be why is he doing this? Does the city charge extra for picking up extra bins? Or is the neighbor just a lazy sod?

There's a three-step approach to this one.
Step 1 - Politely ask the neighbor not to do it anymore.
Step 2 - If Step 1 doesn't work, write a certified letter to the neighbor demanding that it stop.
Step 3 - If Steps 1 and 2 don't solve the problem, dump the garbage on your neighbor's yard with a note attached to the door saying that you are kindly returning his personal property that was misplaced in your garbage pails. I'm sure that will put an end to it.

Personally,I wouldn't make a big deal about it if it just happened
one time. I would follow Writer of Truth's first two steps after the
second time, but step three would be just asking for trouble. The
only thing worse than an office war is a war between neighbors
and garbage isn't worth it. I would continue to use the first
step the second time he did it,after that I might think about calling
the police. Things probably would never get that far, though. My
guess is the first step would handle the matter.

Hi !
Do you know Gandhi ji, yeah from India, if he would be in your position, he would do nothing like kicking the neighbour's a** or stuff, here's what he would have done and what u shoud do to make your neighbour feel guily and stop doing it.
1) When your neighbour dumps it in your can, smile at him and clean the trash right then infront of him.
2) Continue this each day making sure your neighbour sees it when u do so.
3) I am damn sure, maximum in a week, your neighbour would apologize and never ever do it again and he would also respect u.
And hey this was no joke, i know it might sound very crazy to some guyz, but i think u should give it a try and mail me what happened at timuster@yahoo.co.in .. this gandhi's way works... cuz he was the one who made the british empire leave india way back in 1947. :)

What I would do first to try to keep a civil relationship with my neighbor is just to ask this person to please not do this anymore. That's probably all he needs. But if not, tell him if he persists to do this then I will consider him a tresspasser and will have to call the police. Or he could just empty the neighbor's garbage back into the guy's yard.

Do they have there own can? If they do, then go over and tell them, straight up, that you don't want them to dispose of their garbage in your bins anymore. If they don't, then suggest they go buy one, (or call the city and get one, if your city provides them). Make this request politely, then if they keep doing it, start putting your garbage in their can!

Tell to him put a chain and padlock on his garbage can. Tell to him to report this barstard for this before dead body turn ups in can.
Best advise-tell to him buy smaller can so only he garbage can fits-no room for others garbage.

Put a lock on your bins. Threaten to call the police because he's tresspassing. Or next time he does it dump it all out on his front porch.
