Essentially, 1024 characters. Actually, a cell will hold 32,767 characters of text, but there's a catch: Only the first 1024 characters will DISPLAY. Except there's also a catch to that. All 32,767 characters will display correctly IN THE FORMULA BAR ONLY.

Hard to tell. I have used some extremely large formulas in some and a ton of text in others and never ran out of room.
