I need some tips on where to go to get help for domestic violence. I have been with a girl for 3 years now and for the first year of our relationship I had abused her physically. It hasn't happened in over two years now and I stopped because she gave me another chance and I made sure not to do it again. However recently her mom was involved in a relationship where her boy firend had abused her and it caused my girl friend to leave me because she says she can't take a chance of it happening again. I know that I am not going to do it but I want to go through a program or counseling. I want to be reassured myself and I want her to know that I am serious about it. I want to do this for myself first but I'm also going to do it for her. I wanted to go after she gave me another chance but never got around to it because things were so good with us and we were always busy. So any advice on where to go or what to do and anything I can do for myself and for her

I would call the National Domestic Violence Hotline at 1-800-799-7273. They have a website, listed below. They can offer resources and support about programs and resources in your area.

Well this isnt advice on where to go, sorry.
But I want to conradulate you on being aware and stopping what you were doing.
Can I ask you something though? What made you do it in the first place? I have always wondered and wanted to ask someone that. But the majority of people that do that dont see they have a problem so you cant ask.
Either way Im very happy to hear that you realize your issue and are trying to get help.

Hulkster5 and potato have some really excellent advice. You can also call any WOMAN'S shelter and they will be able to give you advice on where they suggest the best counselors for domestic violence/anger management are located in your community. I applaud you on your willingness to understand your issue, and look for assistance for it.

You can always check to see if there are clinics or groups in your area, or you could talk to your physician about it. I admire that you do admit to having a problem and at least trying to get help for it. Also, try doing searches online for hotlines or anything of that nature. Good luck.
