Himalayan
Size: Medium
Age: Adult
Gender: Female
ID: D.O.B. 1998
Notes: Miss Kitty seems very sweet and loving. Her previous owners says she likes to cuddle and sit in laps. I have been able to hold her and she doesn't know me very well. She loves to be brushed. Her previous owner had a 45 lb dog that she was used to being around and was okay with him. She has not been around other cats, so we don't know. My friend was moving and couldn't find a home and was going to take Miss Kitty to the pound. I found this out the day before he was taking her to the pound, so I took her in. Miss Kitty is a sweet, beautiful girl who deserves a wonderful home.
Note: This pet is not within the Snowflake foster system. This is a courtesy listing for a private rescuer. Adoption arrangements will be private arrangements between individuals and are not subject to the policies or guarantees of Snowflake Animal Rescue.

I use to own three Himalayan's, they are awesome cats! But I am affriad that you should do some more reseach about the Himalayan, becasue the Hamalayan is a mix betrewn a Persian and a S. So you can't really have a Persian and Hamalayan mix, they are already mixed! lol :-) I got all my cats from the newspaper, and they were all free and close by. They were awesome cats!! I would look there first! Also, get help from your friends. Ask them to keep an eye out. Many people have friends who rise's them and could give you one for a low price. Not alot of Himalayan cats are at the shelter, becasue they can be alot of money, most of the time at the shelter you find mix's.
Best luck!

One of the best places to get Himalayans and Persians is a shelter or rescue group. The purebred cat rescue my shelter used to work with adopted out adopted out nearly 500 last year- most of which were full blooded Persians and Himalayans. If you adopt an adult you have a better sense of what their temperament is and if they are suffering from any health problems due to bad breeding. There are several homeless Persians listed on Petfinder.org for North Carolina and lots listed in surrounding states. If this is a gift for someone else, you could always offer to pay the adoption fee of the cat of their choice which would allow them to pick out a cat that suits them well. Many places do require that the actual family adopting fills out the adoption application and contract, which also helps them assist the owner in finding a good match.
There are reputable breeders of Persians out there, but sometimes they can be harder to find. As a breed becomes more popular you will see many people try breeding their pet Persians for profit or because they want a litter, which can result in kittens being born with genetic problems that the owner wasn’t aware of. (My own adopted Himalayan has a deformed mouth, heart murmur and several other serious problems that could have likely been avoided if the breeder had been more selective in who they breed.) This is why you would want to find a reputable breeder- and one of the best places to do that would be at a cat show because you will find people trying to improve the breed or reduce health issues. They do offer cats and kittens as pets, as not every kitten produced is going to show quality. Spending more initially when buying from a reputable breeder is much better than high medical bills later if a poorly bred cat has problems.
Hope you find what you are looking for!

If you are saying that you want to give the cat as a housewarming gift please do not do that. In general, you should never give a live animal as a gift. A live animal is just too much of a responsibility. Particularly if they have just moved into a new home they are probably too busy and may not want a cat right now. Also, you may have misunderstood whether they really would want a cat or what kind they would want. It is too risky and not fair to the cat. I agree with the first poster that I would want to pick out my own pet.
Perhaps you could give them a voucher for a cat at the local animal shelter if you are sure they want a cat? That way they can go pick out their own cat when they are ready. By the way, many people are amazed at the beautiful animals available in shelters, about 25% of which are purebreds. You can feel good knowing that you saved a life. Or even a giftcard for Petco or Petsmart so that they can buy food and supplies after they get their cat?

NEVER give an animal as a gift. A lot of animals end up in shelters this way.
You never know if a person can have a cat, wants a cat, if the particular cat you're looking into is even the kind they want, etc. Even if you know all of these things, it's always better to let the prospective owner search for an animal themselves. I know I'd want to bond with an animal before being roped into caring for it. If someone just brought me a cat and said, "Here's your new pet", I'd be a bit irritated.
If you want to help this person with getting a Himalayan, why don't you offer to help pay for it? Then that person can pick the right cat for them and their situation.
If you're looking at professional breeders, you're probably not going to find anything much cheaper.
I like the mottos "Save a life, adopt an adult pet" and "Don't shop, adopt!". Both good mottos to live by....something you could pass on to the person who is maybe looking to get a cat. I adopted both of mine as adults, and they're the best cats you could ask for. Both mutts, but beautiful.

Check the shelters - they do get pure bred Himalayans and Persians every once in awhile. Also look on www.petfinder.com You can search by your location and the breed you are looking for. Much less expensive than buying a kitty from a breeder, and you will be saving a life!
