I'm doing a study on abortion and the effect it has on a women psychologically. I don't care what side of the spectrum you are on or what your personal beliefs are when it comes to abortion. That question will probably come later. For now I just have a couple question. Please tell me what religion you are and if you believe that the human body contains a soul or spirit, then tell me, based directly on how you feel or what you personally beleive, when you beleive a human gains that spirit or soul in them, at birth? a fetus? Let me know. Thanks for the help.

This is directed to devlsadvocate and your remark. There is no need to be rude. I read your information on your page and it seems we have a lot in common. Before you jump to conclusions and just assume that my study is mediocre compared to what your genius mind can come up with why dont you obtain all the facts. Beleive me, I'm not just using the yahoo answers people for my study, I use my resources from every angle I can imagine and the internet (not just one website though) just happens to be on of them. I'm not out to get you, I do understand your question, it would be stupid of me to study a topic such as this using only Yahoo answers. I'm no genius but I don't like it when people treat me like I'm a complete idiot.

I am a non-denominational Christian. I believe the human body contains BOTH a soul and a spirit (this is what the Bible says). I believe a person gains his or her soul and spirit at the moment of conception.
Jeremiah 1:5a says: “Before I formed you in the womb I knew you;"
Psalm 22:10 I was cast upon You from birth.
From My mother’s womb
You have been My God.
I hope this helps. Peace.

I am jewish by religion, and my spirituality is a compiliation of various understandings, including a basis in basic Kabbalah, and my personal experiences.
the body is indeed a shell to hold a soul. (I know this with as much certainty as I know that I am currently alive at all)
the problem with the second part... is that it varies. sometimes the soul "attaches" very early in pregnancy, sometimes it attaches during labor, or a little bit before, sometimes it doesn't even attach until a bit after birth.
sometimes they even come and go, visiting and leaving, throughout the pregnancy, before really attaching firmly.
and the bottom line is, that one has to be able to sense it.
the variability of its effect (it can have a broad variety....) is due to varying degrees of concious, and unconcious awareness the mother has, of the state of the soul, or lack thereof, of a fetus they are carrying.

I am an atheist and do not believe in a soul or spirit as the term is commonly used. I believe we are all interconnected by virtue of the fact we are all made of the same "stuff."
A fetus is not a person and abortion is of no consequence except to those who succumb to the "God did it" myths. Most of which rely on imposing guilt on people for engaging in normal human activities, including aborting an unwanted fetus.

I am Assemblies of God (pentecostal, Christian)
You start out in Heaven in spirit form, upon conception you are given your soul, and the body develops from there.
"I knew you before you were formed in you mothers womb." Jeremiah 1,5a
James C I tried to reply but your email is not set up to receive yet.

I am Wiccan. Please don't take this as EVERY Wiccan's religious opinion; it may or may not be ONLY mine. I do believe the human body has a spirit, and that spirit is first created as soon as the genetical process starts. As soon as a zygote forms, there is a spirit.
Good luck with your class!

Christian, yes we contain a soul, and at or before conception, the bible says that God knew you before you were born. These are my beliefs and nothing anyone will ever say about it will change that.
