I've seen it done two ways: the more traditional option is that it is the first dance of the night (therefore, after dinner) or the more recent option is that the couple has their first dance immediately after they are announced and enter the reception.

I really like the second option cuz it allows the Father-Bride / Mother-Groom dances a bit more breathing room and feels like like a show. (My opinion, anyway.)

I DJ for weddings and I've seen this done several different ways, but it's always been the first dance of the evening:

1. Immediately following the introduction of the Bridal party and the Bride and Groom.
2. At the end of the Cocktail Hour, just before the main meal.
3. Immediately after the dinner, before the cake-cutting.

Just remember though, it's your wedding, so it's your decision!

I've been to so many where they wait til after everyone's done eating, but by then people are starting to leave.

I want my guest to enjoy themselves from the moment we say "I do" , so we're dancing in when they announce. That way the floor will be open for all regardless of if you're eating or not!

That'll really give them 4 hours of fun instead of just an hour or hour and a half!

But really, it's your wedding! Your day! You should do it EXACTLY how you want to do it. And if anyone has a problem with it, send them to me!

It'll be wonderful! You'll See!! Congrats & Good Luck!

Whenever you want. If you're having dinner, it makes the most sense to me to have it after dinner. But do what works best for you.

I think it's traditional for it to be the first dance period.
