we give my golden retriever chocolate too. just not as much as you do! but i dont think it matters that much. i think its okay with goldens because they are so big and have stronger metabolisms so their bodies are able to digest it. however if you have a smaller dog (5-60lbs) then it could easily kill them because it is hard for them to digest. if your dog is okay with it then dont worry about it. we give it to our golden too.

It's fine for a dog that size.
I wouldn't give her any more than that though...
When you hear "chocolate" is poisonous, and tiny amounts are quoted - they are usually referring to the pure stuff like baking chocolate.
Since chocolate mixtures vary, this is about the only reliable way to say it. However nobody eats pure chocolate because it tastes like... well, it don't taste good, but a dog might eat it.
A Hershey bar contains 74 mg of theobromide (the bad stuff).
The dog gets 1/2 for 37mg.
According to the Merck Merck Veterinary manual,
symptoms begin showing at a levels of 20mg/kg of body weight.
Unless you have the first 4.4lb Lab I've seen - I think you're just fine...
Just keep them where the dog can't reach them.
(He might decide to eat your 1/2 too! ;)
White chocolate's is fine - because it's not really chocolate.
Dark chocolate is 2-7 times worse, so stay away from that.
Halloween is an especially bad time. Don't let anyone give her extra and make sure that kilo of chocolate is put up..

You know what give your dog all the chocolate you like.
If your dog dies then you have killed it by feeding in chocolate.
However if you feel your dog loves it and that you are not hurting the dog despite what everyone has told you keep doing what you are doing.
Maybe you will be lucky and your dog will not die.
chocolate does contain a chemical called theobromine and that is toxic to dogs and can cause them to die.
It is found in higher concentrations in dark chcoclate or baker chocolate than candy bars.
There are only about a million things your dog would rather have than chocolate. Like some nice stinky dog junk food treat.

You have been lucky so far. There is something in chocolate that is fatel for them. If you give her a little every day that toxin could be building up in her body. Try and find another treat that she really likes, Give her some cheese or meat, in the long run she will be a much happyer dog and you'll have her around for alot longer. I know its going to be hard cuz she will prob wine when she sees you eating it but just give her one of her treats or get her a big bone.

There is a chemical in chocolate that is poisonous to dogs and cats. And it can be FATAL. Ask your VET, they will agree. Everyone above me that said a little bit is OK, and it's fine to give this to your pet, DO SOME RESEARCH. This is a BIG risk to take, as I am sure your dog loves OTHER THINGS TOO.
Congratulations. You've been lucky. You could have killed your dog. Please stop giving her chocolate. Try milk bones instead.

Chocolate contains a chemical called Thiobromide, which is toxic to dogs and cats! Even in small doses you are poisoning your dog, in you case slowly. There could already be damage because of it. See if your local pet store has "dog chocolates". It will give him the same treat without the poisoning effect.

It depends on the amount of chocolate ate, the size of the dog, and well luck. Dark and unsweetened baking chocolates are especially dangerous...milk chocolate or candy bar type chocolates are less dangerous....
Chocolate is not good for the dogs teeth, if you feed your dog alot of human foods she will probably devolop bad gum/teeth problems later in life. Also dogs can get diabetes.

Give me a break! It's like saying you feed your kid quarts of candy everyday because they love it, and then wonder why your kid is obese. The bottom line is this: Chocolate is toxic to dogs. I've seen the damage it does to them and it's not pretty. Do you really want to risk it?? Can you really say that you can find nothing else to give your dog as a treat that's healthier for her? Come on!

Chocolate is bad for your dog. PERIOD.
Here is a link to a very useful article from the ASPCA that talks about items that could be harmful to your pet, and others that, suprisingly, are not harmful. Definitely worth taking the time to read!

The problem is to much chocolate. Over a long period of time she could develope kidney problems. To much chocolate at one time could kill her. It takes a lot though.
That's why people freak out. I would give her something else to enjoy.
Good Luck and take Care
P.S. not good for the teeth either

chocolate is different to all dogs, but it can cause heart attacks because of the caffien. i had one dog that would puke her brains out if she got 1 hershey kiss. she was cute tho, she learned how to unwrap them, but i also had another dog that once ate 1/2lbs of fudge and went running around the house for hours like a 2 year old on that much fudge. i wouldnt recomend giving your dog lots, but a square or 2... maybe ok
