Since we don't yet have any accurate method of measuring even an amount emotion, much less it's "sophistication" it's impossible to say. What does it mean for an emotion to be "sophisticated" anyway?

There are so many terms here that need to be well-defined to answer this question. "Many people"? How about two people? And what does "sophisticated" mean? How about, "how does selflessly loving one person differ from selflessly loving two people?" This is my answer to that: Love is not selfless. Love is either an involuntary chemical reaction/addiction or it's a voluntary chemical reaction/addiction.

You shouldn't selflessly do anything. Love is an emotion. It is an attraction to something or someone else.
Now, you should have respect for other people. It is good to give something of yourself for the betterment of all. If more people did this, there would be less we'd have to do for each other.
Of course, there is more that we generally do for those close to us. That still isn't selfless, though, because we gain much from helping others.

To selflessly love is unconditional love. If it changes at any time to hate then it wasn't selfless love. Selfless love see no distinctions so you would love all. This love is from that view that we are all one. To actually see that as the truth is liberation, the kingdom of god, or whatever you want to call it.

Loving one person is more sophisticated, because you have to look for everything you want in one person. But it's more rewarding, too.

Have you heard of the principle of weight distribution? Love works the same way.

Define self-less love. In the way I see it, it is at best episodic and at worst impossible.
