On the A1 in the UK, there is a small section of road which contains experimental cat's eyes.
I haven't dug one out of the tarmac to look at it, but I guess it must have some sort of faceted glass-lens, because they twinkle and wink at you as you drive past.
They are, actually, quite incredibly good as road-markers.
