if someone bumped my car and left a note w/their first name and a phone number and they don't call back, would my insurance be able to find them? or should i just let them go?

To begin with, you don't know if the note is their name and phone number, or the number to their sister-in-law that they don't like. You can do a reverse look up of the number and find the address and drive there if you'd like. Is there enough damage to make it worth while to trace them?

Call & keep calling til you get someone.
Call the police to file a report (if you haven't already). And do some research on the phone number (call the phone company). The police can assist with that.

Seems to me that if the individual took the time to do all of that then maybe it was sincere! Who would do all of that if they wanted to avoid being caught? I think I'll just hang around and post memo's on everyone's car instead of just driving away as quickly as possible to avoid apprehension! What's your thought?

There's no other way that the insurance company could find the person.
