dropped their child off at day care but failed to notify the day care provider that they had given the child medicine before they left home that morning?

I'm the day care provider and I'm pretty mad about it. I have no way of knowing what kind of medicine it was, I'm assuming some kind of cough or runny nose because the child has been stuffed up all week. She doesn't take regular prescribed medication so this is my best guess. The only reason I know is because the child had a wet spot on her shirt this morning and I could smell the medicine. I think it was totally irresponsible, selfish, and inconsiderate of the parent not to tell me. Plus, the health policy that I have all the parents sign states that I must be informed if a child has been given medication. She's not even working today and brought her child here knowing she was sick enough for medicine and didn't tell me. The only reason I haven't called her to come get the child is because she said she was coming early today, but I have no idea if that's true. People, if you do this to your child care providers, STOP IT! Be a parent and take care of your own sick kids!!!

ELLA, have you ever heard of thing called NAP TIME? Don't you even try to suggest that I'm not doing my job!!!!!!! And Jevic, disneychick is right you SHOULD be ashamed of yourself for doing that to your child. Also, I would not have sent the child home just because she had the sniffles, good gried this is the nature of the beast and the joy of fall. All I'm asking is for people to be more appreciative and considerate of their day care providers and at least let them know, as agreed upon, when the child has been given ANY kind of medication.

I am so with you on this!!! I have a day care in my home as well, and it's shocking what people do to their kids for the sake of a buck. Being forgetful is not a legitimate excuse for all of you who have said that. If you can't remember to tell the day care provider something as simple as giving your child medicine, shame on you. My guess is that people don't forget they just don't want to tell the provider because they're afraid they will have to take the child home and actually take care of their child. And that other poster that said she would give her child medicine for a fever and then send them to day care knowing they would be calling her later to come pick up the child, YOU SHOULD BE ASHAMED OF YOURSELF! I used to work outside the home and I never even thought of doing something so selfish to my day care provider or my child. Don't parents realize that if they get the provider sick, it doesn't matter if you didn't use up a sick day staying home with your child, you'll have to use one eventually when the day care has to close because the provider has gotten sick as well??!?!??!! I got into this business because I wanted to help out other parents and be a safe place for their kids to come during the day, but I guess I've learned there are a lot of people out there who have no respect or consideration for anyone else but themselves, not even for their own children. That's sad.

why does it matter that they gave there child medicine at home. Is it medicine they get on a regular basis or medicine because they were ill. If they were ill then the child should have been kept home according to most daycare centers rules and regulations. I n the case I would call the parent and ask them to pick the child up due to illness.

That's not very responsible. The daycare provider is in charge of not only other children, but your child as well and that provider should know everything in order to take the best care of them. If a parent didn't notify them about that then they obviously don't care what happens after they drop their kid off.

You can talk to them when they come pick up their child. And BTW I really get annoyed with parents that drop their kids off at my school when they are sick. I am 9 months pregnant and I missed my whole last week of work in my classroom because of inconsiderate parents who bring their children to school sick.

Wow...chill out!! As a parent, I can understand how it is easy to forget things...even stuff like that. And...does this person pay for your services? If so, then even if they stayed home that day...that is none of your business. Why didn't you just call the parent and ask...you knew they were home? You should have a list of contact numbers. My point is, don't be so hard on people, EVERYONE makes mistakes.

I am a single mother and deal with everything on my own. I remember everything as well as I can, but somtimes things slip through the cracks. I tend to write things down to remeber and stick it in the diaper bag... to prevent these types of situations. Like the others have said, unless the daycare provider was asked to give the child meds, it is not that big of a deal. Cases always vary so it depends on the situation. If one of my children is on a new medication, I stay home with them to see how they will react before sending them to daycare. (in case they have an allergic reaction or something). Licensed daycare providers are not supposed to give children meds unless the parent has requested, AND they have a bottle with a label specifically for the child... with their name and dosage on it.

I take care of my sick kids, and as for you, get off of the computer and take care of the kids that you get paid to take care of!!!!! You should talk to the parent instead of assuming things. Not everyone is perfect, but it is important to remeber especially when it affects children!

Probably just a forgetful parent!

Unless it had implications for the childcare provider, eg
- It would clash with or replace medicine that the provider had agreed to administer
- It would make the child drowsy or grumpy

Parents usually pay ALOT of money for good childcare and we get stuck with providers who barely made it out of high school to care for our children Deal with it. Usually parents who have their child in a daycare setting have good jobs and can't take off every time their child gets the sniffles.

just tell child care you gave you kid medicine because they are sick and if they have questions to call you at work.

Hmm.

"Ma'am, your daughter has been sick this week. Please take her home and let her recover."

Doesn't seem very difficult to me.

If you wouldn't have sent her home just for sniffles, why are you bitching? Get your hormones under control, lady. Tempers like yours I wouldn't want around my kids.
