Our daughter is 14 months and we still use the changing table. We keep her occupied while she is on the table. While it has become more of a challenge, we are extremely cautious. If you don't leave your child unattended, he will not fall off. I find it physically difficult to change a diaper on the floor or mattress. Not only is the floor a place where she knows she can play around, it is not easy to keep supplies as handy as on the changing table. Our daughter knows that the changing table is for diaper changes and she is pretty good about keeping still enough to clean her up. It has nothing to do with not wanting her to grow up. It has everything to do with hygiene and comfort for all.

I don't actually use my son's changing table and he's only 6 months. I use it as some more shelves in his room. I do keep diapers/wipes/hand sanatizer, etc... on there, but I don't change him on it, I just change him wherever we happen to be(except the kitchen :p). You might want to leave it up, so that you can use it as storage, but if he's a year old he's probably getting too big for it, as you said, so if you need to take it down to keep your husband from using it, then get rid of it now.
I only have a changing table because it came as a package deal with the crib, lol.

Honey it's time. It gets to be dangerous when they are older.
Here is what I do....
I keep diapers and wipes below our TV in our entertainment cabinet and change her there. She gets involved in watching the TV and since we use that room the most, I don't have to go to another room. I love it! It's so convenient. Plus I usually end up staying on the floor with her and playing. She never hates getting changed.
It's hard watching them grow so fast!

When they were too big for it. I would just change them where ever I could at that point like on the bed or on the floor. I kept mine up to use as shelves for toys and such.

Does jakesdad ever change the diapers? If not, then he should keep his mouth shut. If so, then maybe he likes using it and doesn't want to switch.

If he looks too big for it, then he doesn't need it. Time to lay him on the floor to change diapers :-)
