I have heard more cases of dogs sacrificing themselves for their owners than I have heard of humans sacrificing themselves for their dogs. Are dogs more sophisticated than humans? Depends what you mean by sophisticated I guess.

No not really.
There are many animals on the earth that only take one mate for life. Geese for one.
Love or monogamy?

The concept of Love is simple.
It is the sophistication that can make it difficult.

I don't think any animals other than humans have a concept of love. Animals mate to reproduce and pass their genes to the next generation. Some animals mate for life, which makes us think "they must LOVE each other". But they don't - they are doing whatever is the most advantageous choice for their population.

no necessarily because after all wolves, swans, and some other animals mate for life. that shows more devotion than humans which are now notorious for getting divorced.
