Yes. I used to volunteer in the pulmonary subacute ward of a nearby hospital. Most of the patients are in comas (hence the ventilators). Nurses clean the patients' teeth, not with a brush and paste, but a spongy swab and some antiseptic. The patient tends to jerk involuntarily in response. Others who are more aware of their surroundings usually put up a little bit of resitance until asked to relax.

Hopefully Yes! By a caring family member and or nurse or staff member in the facility that the patient is in. One still has buildup regardless of eating or not so maintaining a some what healthy mouth is best for the rest of the body. You want to heal from the inside out.

"They" are supposed to, but they don't really do a very good job most of the time. If you have a family member in a coma, see about doing this yourself. Be sure to ask about choking precautions.

no, they don't really "brush" your teeth, but they do clean your mouth. they use oral hygiene swabs (like lemon/glycerine) to swab out your mouth to maintain good oral care.

Yes, the nurses or nurse's aides will do it. Or your family.
