Great matchup Brent F! I believe this would be a very tough fight between two great warriors. Sanchez was very stoic when in the ring never showing any emotion and going about his business. He had a granite chin and great boxing skills. Chavez on the other hand is a great body puncher also possessing a granite chin so even though there would be some teriffic punches landed by both men it would go the distance with Sanchez winning by split decision and the public crying for a rematch.

Brent - Too many reruns, go to box-rec and I know you could find more originals.

Sanchez - W 44 (KO's 32) TF 46 - W pct 96% - KO pct 70% - wins over D. Lopez, Castillo, Nelson, Gomez and LaPorte - KO'ed by none - #88 ranked puncher - #24 ranked fighter

Chavez - W 108 (KO's 86) TF 116 - W pct 97% - KO pct 74% - wins over Limon, Taylor, Rosario, Camacho, R. Mayweather, Lockridge and Ramirez - KO'ed by Kostya Tszyu and De La Hoya - #50 ranked puncher - #18 ranked fighter
Titles at 130, 135 and 140

They both have wins and KO's over good fighters. This a battle for the Pancho Villa trophy. Sanchez was never KO'ed. I pick Chavez in a 15th rd split decision (he did win fights without a KO).

Brent ~
If you think I felt like a traitor before answering your Barrera vs Arguello question, I can't begin to write to you how sick to my stomach this one makes me. Great match up here that would definitely end up in a rematch, possibly a trilogy right up there with the likes of Ali vs Frazier.
The only problem I see here Brent would be, actually it wouldn't be a problem just an adjustment on Julio's part. Early in Julio's career he weighed as little as 118 pounds (Featherweight) in his fight against Jesus Lara knocking him out in two rounds and he had 10 fights weighing in at 120 pounds (Featherweight) you purposed this fight at (Superfeather weight)
Salvador Sanchez promised his parents Luisa Narvaez and Filipe' Sanchez that he would never fight any heavier than a featherweight. His mother thought he was to tall and thin to fight even at featherweight, but his walking around weight was 119 and he told her "This is the weight I am comfortable at and I don't want to lose any weight, that will take away from my strength." Right then and there the promise was made that he would never fight any heavier or lighter than featherweight.
Julio Cesar Chavez wouuld not have a problem fighting Salvador at the featherweight limit 122-26 remember this would have been the 80's, and Julio would respect Salvadors promise to his mother and father.
The fight would be your typical Mexican warrior clash. Julio or Salvador would not take a backwards step. Salvadors accurate counter punching would be evident early on and begin to show on Chavez's face around the 6th round. Whenever Julio would unload a murderous body attack Salvadors much straighter and extremly accurate right hand would find it's way to Julio's left eye and would begin to swell it shut.
Salvadors right side of his body would be a light shade of purple from all of the left hooks and his face too would show signs of damage, and his usual emotionless face would begin to grimice in the corner, but he would never show Julio any emotional effects of his body blows.
Salvador would begin to slow just a little bit in round 11, but would come on strong in rounds 12 and 13, Julio would comeback with a vengence and win the 14th, the 15th would be one of the greatest rounds in the history of boxing, toe to toe in the center of the ring neither man willing to accept defeat. The bell rings to end the fight, no hugs here, both fighter extend their arm to one another and touch their gloves together, knod and walk back to their corners where they wait to hear the decision. A Draw! They gotta do it again!
We all know what Chavez did and we can only guess and wonder what Salvador would have been like if he made it to his prime. "What a fight" I must say, what a fight that would have been.
Thanks Brent, I know you probably think I took the cheap way out on this one, but what else could I do and this way they both win. Too close to call brother.
