This is a fabulous question...let me know if anyone actually answers. Since I am not atheist, I cannot show them how it's done.

What do you mean 'my own culture'? My personal culture? My national culture? Because there is no such thing as the 'atheist culture'. We all have NOTHING in common other than not believing in god...

And as for the historical past, I am not about to take responsibility for whatever any individual atheists did. They weren't acting in the name of atheism, or AS atheists. It's like blaming all Christians for what Hitler (a Christian) did. Hitler didn't act as a Christian.

I suppose so.....no one in my family were ever slave owners, or Klansmen, or belonged to the Inquisition. My Jewish grandparents and great-grandparents converted to Christianity when they immigrated to America in order to fit in, which taught a valuable lesson about the lack of depth to most people's religious commitments and how religion in general is merely a social construct with no profound "truth" underlying it. I suppose the Cherokee Indian side of the family got their share of being kicked around as well, though I feel no ill will or resentment toward their oppressors. Mostly I find that I am free to define my own path, rather than have some obsolete old book do it for me; and to help my son discover what his ultimate desitny might be.

Atheisim isn't a culture, it is the word used to express a lack of belief in God or gods. A-Theisim = Without Theisim = Without gods.

Are you comfortable with Christianity's historical past? The slaying of innocent peoples because they didn't conform to your opinion!

Recommended reading: "Doubt: A History", by Jennifer Hecht.

Of course, the history of theistic skepticism - a better term than atheism or agnosticism, in my book - has not been treated as a coherent topic very often, this book is the exception.

You are confused.

Atheism has no culture, nor any historical past.

Unless you can prove an uninterrupted doctrine which has been passed down, taught, and followed throughout atheism existence? (P.s. Lack of belief in god is not a doctrine, merely a position, just as beliefe in god is not a doctrine.)

I'm a Texan with cultural ties to nearly every continent, including the Americas before the European hordes began their invasion.

And, yes, I'm comfy with my mongrel heritage, it makes me far more tolerant of different beliefs & cultures.

Atheism isn't a group or even a culture, it a conclusion. I came to the conclusion that the god of the bible does not exist, the same as the Greek or Roman, or Egyptian gods do not. That was after research, so my Atheism is a conclusion.
