I never have, but should I? All they do is bring the food to the car. If I should tip, what percentage is appropriate?

Ok, I am not a tightwad, JKM, I typically tip 20% at sit-down restaurants. Like another poster said, there is no tip line on the debit receipt, and I usually use debit and don't carry cash. So that is why I asked the question!

If all they do is plop down the bag,I don't tip, but if they make special trips for me (more napkins, salt,or catsup) and serve me with a smile, I usually leave a tip. I would leave at least 50 cents or a dollar. These servers make very little money and if you tip, they will remember you and the way you like things. You might not even have to ask for extras. If you take care of them, they will remember and appreciate you.

A tip is not required, it is an act of gratitude for those who did a good job. You don't have to pay tips at all, the only downside is that you may get worse service the next time you come or find human saliva in your burgers. I will tip according to how well their service was, although it usually falls within the 15-20% range, less if they had terrible service. But also think of it this way, those workers are working for probably minimum wage, or close to, wouldn't you think that the tip would help them.

If you go anywhere that the food is brought to you past the kitchen yes, you should tip. When we've been, which is only when we're visiting my inlaws (there's no sonic where we are), we usually tip $2 or $3 if we're ordering food. If it's a drink, like $0.50 or $1

I usually do, but if you use a debit card there, there's no place on the receipt to leave a tip, so I don't know if it's expected. I don't tip them as much as at a real restaurant though--they do very little.

Yes. This is a server and you are being waited upon just as you are in any restaurant. Not a lot...10% is usual unless it is less than a $1...at least leave a buck.

My wife has gotten me into the habit of tipping $1 regardless of the size of the order. Prior to that, I didn't tip at Sonic at all.

NO! All they do is walk the food out(the two places around here don't even rollerblade anymore!),when the're not walking your food out, the're doing regular resturaunt stuff. The average McDonalds or Burger King employee makes minimum wage(which is around 5 bucks an hour). If you think they should be acknowledged for walking a few feet outside that little booth, give them an extra buck an hour.I don't believe they deserve to get tipped constantly though...if they want to make more money, they should work somewhere else.............not make other people feel guiltyfor not giving them their hard earned cash(that they probably did more than dip fries and walk outside for)!

I've been going to Sonic for years and never knew that anyone gave tips to the servers. I learned something new today!

My daughter used to work at Sonic, and she says one should tip there, since they actually bring the food to you, rather than as at other fast food places you have to go get it.
