I have no idea? Also, why was a pope position created. It just sounds controlling? I don't know.

The Pope is the senior pastor of 1.1 billion Catholics, the direct successor of Simon Peter.

Jesus said to him in reply, "Blessed are you, Simon son of Jonah. For flesh and blood has not revealed this to you, but my heavenly Father. And so I say to you, you are Peter, and upon this rock I will build my church, and the gates of the netherworld shall not prevail against it. I will give you the keys to the kingdom of heaven. Whatever you bind on earth shall be bound in heaven; and whatever you loose on earth shall be loosed in heaven." (Matthew 16:17-19)

The Catholic Church believes the Lord made Simon alone, whom he named Peter, the "rock" of his Church. He gave him the keys of his Church and instituted him shepherd of the whole flock.

The Pope’s main roles include teaching, sanctifying, and governing.

With love in Christ.

Didn't Moses appoint Joshua after him and so on and so on. Same thing with the Popes. Peter appointed the next one and so on down the line. The problem people have with authority is amazing. It goes right back to Adam and Eve." No one's going to tell me what to do!, Not even God!" People talk about the Pope in a negative way because he is an authority figure, so what do they do? They each have their own little church with their own little pastor to tell them what to do. Okay now they have a thousand little Popes. Somewhere there has to be an authority lead by God. That is the Pope.

Peter wasn't the first pope of the catholic church. Peter was the one who God put in charge of His church. Some people decided that they couldn't handle having a God that they couldn't touch or see so they decided to make someone lead there church. So they left the original church and made their own. It started with a bishop then they wanted someone to watch over the bishop so they made archbishops. well eventually someone had to watch over the archbishops and this finally led to the position of the pope. All this was mans doing not Gods.

The Pope is the Bishop of Rome. His primary duty is to the diocese of Rome. Secondarily, Western Christians came to believe that doctrinal unity with the Bishop of Rome was a defense against slipping into heresy.

The pope is actually the head cardinal of Italy and the Roman Catholic church. His job is to oversee the functions of the church and the doctrines of the church. He used to wear the same red robes as any other cardinal.

In the Catholic tradition, Peter founded the church and was the first Pope. Afterwards, they appointed another and it continued to this day.

He is the head of the church.

I think it has to do with them wanting to have a live and breathing person to represent them. They obviously forgot that Jesus is the head of the church and that they can come to him a living person for their needs. We have Jesus and the Holy Word of God to teach us and guide is in this life. Why they need a pope, it beats be!!

Jesus created it while he was on earth. He appointed Peter as the first Pope.

It is not to control, it is to Guide.

The Pope's job is the leader of the Faith, we do not worship the Pope!

Peace!
