I don't think it is a popular, or well recognized idea. I have not met a single person while on active duty that has had negative things to say about the Vietnam Veterans, at least as a whole. Also, a lot of Vietnam Veterans were drafted, did not want to go to Vietnam, and did not believe in that war. It only makes sense that they would speak out against any war that does not make sense to them, Vietnam, Iraq, or Afghanistan.

I am no longer active duty, but I can tell you coming back from a combat environment, and the unwelcome reception we received, gave me much more respect and admiration for Vietnam vets. I was very young when our troops were still coming home and was appalled at what I saw and heard others do or say about or to these courageous people. The military is not pleasant, it is not for " I did it status" it is an honor to be chosen to be able to be a part of the history that has shaped this country for hundreds of years. Many Vietnam vets did not want to be in a war, they were not happy about having to kill, they were doing their job. They did what many others could not do. War is crazy, on the front lines you do not have any idea why you are there, but you are and you have a job to do to go home. War veterans are not exterminators, psycho's or war mongers, they are simply full filling the honor that should have been bestowed them for protecting this country, and others who need assistance.
I think Vietnam veterans are remarkable people who deserve respect, regardless of the personal opinion of people who were not there and do not know.

Not at all! Servicemembers have the utmost respect for other veterans, the ones who have fought before us; we revere that status and hold it as more important than the veteran's current political leanings, which are irrelevant. It does bother us when we see other veterans vehemently bashing Bush or the war, though, especially the one or two holding signs calling current servicemembers "killers". Current active servicemembers have a job to do, just as Vietnam vets did during their time; you don't have to support the war, but if you do march around on national television holding negative signs, screaming, with froth at the mouth, it tends to make it difficult to get the mission accomplished, regardless of what anyone else tells you. It is a lot harder for a soldier to accomplish his mission if he's convinced that everyone at home doesn't support him and the cause that he's fighting for, or even hate him, in the case of a few people.

I'm not in the military, nor do I look down on Vietnam Veterans, nor do I have a problem with speaking out against the war.

We have respect for all Veterans! They fought for the right to speak out against this current war. Just as we are fighting for the freedom of the free world.

You have to be kidding me.

Vietnam veterans are probably the most respected group active in the military community out there (Second World War and Korean War vets are older and less involved these days, though when they come out for parades and such, I am always in complete awe). Everyone in mid-career knows someone personally or knows of someone who was a respected mentor who was a Vietnam vet. I've worked with two: One is a rotary-wing aviation pilot who probably has the most hours flown in a CH-47 of any human being alive; another was eighteen and young when he got sent to Vietnam as a grunt; when I saw him, he was the most serene middle-aged man I'd ever met. Others I've met (or seen) are the hard as nails senior NCOs, veterans not only of Vietnam but every war since. Turn of the century saw a drastic decline in their numbers still serving; I'd imagine not many are left today as anything other than Federal contractors.

I couldn't care less if AUTHENTIC Vietnam vets spoke out against the war. They earned their right to say so. I cashed my check for two years worth of infantry service in Iraq, and I still don't feel I've done half as much as the REAL Vietnam vets did in a month of their lives in country.

Any active duty servicemember who regards a veteran of a previous war (who has not proved himself disloyal to the Constitution of the United States) with any sort of distaste or patronizing attitude just for being a vet, is a douchebag who deserves to be stomped down a gutter drain. Any Vietnam vet who rationally states his disagreements with me on the War on Terror gets a polite nod and we compare notes. Anyone, civilian or veteran, who mindlessly froths at the mouth and can't be heard over the "Shrub" jokes or how we're brainwashed gangs of baby-raping thugs gets put in the same box as people who knock on my door ten times a week trying to convert me to their religion with stalking tactics.

Vietnam vets are the least respected and most mistreated demographic group in America ever to be abused by the government and the public. Regardless of race or color, wealth or poverty, they paid dearly for so much grief in return. They deserve our admiration.

quote
"No, but it is disheartening that Vietnam Vets look down on the active duty who are currently serving our country."

WHOA
Don't for a second confuse apposing a war with not supporting our troops! ! !
Because you will be missing by a mile! !
Many of us that served in Vietnam, just don't want another generation of solders having to go through the same thing we had to.
That in no way implies that we don't have complete trust and confidence in those that are serving now.
I will tell you tho', those of us that have served or are serving now, hold ourselves to a far higher standard than society in general ever thought of holding us to.

ofcourse not, do you know why they are speaking out? Its because they have been there and done this, i am in iraq right now, i wouldnt support their protests but i would support their right to speak out to the american public... they are not the only ones who disagree w/ this war, but if anybody has the right to speak their mind about it its them. i respect vietnam vets always have and always will...
i can garuntee you one thing though, and thats that no matter what our government puts us soldiers through, a vietnam vet may not respect the decisions our president and his administration makes, but you will never find a vietnam vet not supportive of the soldiers doing their duties.

All individuals, including middle attractiveness individuals, would desire to pay their sensible share of taxes. If the present economic reality way that there is now not sufficient tax revenues from diverse supplies to pay for a center tax shrink, then the economically prudent process action is to end a center tax shrink until eventually at last the yankee financial climate improves sufficiently. If Obama did not trim his marketing campaign ensures to replicate the present economic realities, then i might think of betrayed. I voted for Obama for a volume of motives even nonetheless especially on condition that I have been given right here to have self assurance his judgment to make nicely possibilities ordinary upon an trustworthy and exhaustive examination of the archives in all needed concerns. Why even ask that? If you serve time in the military, regardless of what branch, you are forever linked by an unexplainable force. Respect is of utmost importance. No matter what war it was that the soldier served in.
