Bathe them in Dawn dish liquid will kill any live fleas on the dog, but doesn't protect them from flea eggs. You really can not get any better though than those you get from your vet. I know the can be kinda pricy, but it is better than paying all the money to get rid of fleas once they get into your home. I have had pretty good luck buying Frontline from the DR. Fosters and Smith website.

I have found that nothing compares to Advantage Plus. I know it is expensive, but it works the best. All the baths in the world won't keep the fleas off the dog. They will always come back. I have tried everything under the sun, including peppermint oil and garlic to get rid of fleas and after spending money on flea shampoos, flea spray, collars and powders, I have discovered that it ends up being cheaper to get the Advantage.

Advantage protects from mosquitoes also, which cuts down on the chances for heart worms. It really pays for itself in the long run.

There are some over the counter meds like HARTZ has a flea and tick protector you put on the skin between the shoulders. It is much cheaper than the vet, but doesn't last as long and isn't as effective.

Good Luck and Take Care.

If you don't have a bad infestation and your dog is strickly inside and very rarely goes outside then a capstar pill which will kill the feas on your dog for only 24 hours and some good flea and tick shampoo should keep your dog in good condition. You might want to consider treating your yard too with something called "Over and Out" you can get it at home depot and it has the same active ingredient as frontline. But if this doesn't work the only other option is a flea preventative from your vet like advantix or frontline. Good Luck!

Frontline, available from the vet, works superbly and may be more expensive than you like but consider your pet's health and comfort.

Also consider whether you want to live in a house full of fleas and ticks.

I have continually used Frontline and performance had tremendous effects. I stay interior the south the position fleas are year-round themes. I have worked with animals professionally for 25 years. those are strong products that are truly efficient. even if, i do not ignore that some animals (the picture of human beings) are chemically-smooth. a buddy of mine ought to no longer use any of this stuff because her canines would pass into seizures. keep in recommendations it really is ONE canines between many pets in her lifetime, even if it may ensue. persist with the academic to the letter, ask questions in case you do not realize something. in case you make the most of it and see neurological symtoms that initiate right this moment, WASH that stuff OFF and take it to the vet! There are some strong innovations the following already...prevention is the most proper direction. Cleanliness is next to....ah, you recognize something...yet over-cleansing can strip the necessary oils from the floor. I advise a lot of analyze earlier you be certain in case you're anxious about attempting it. Flea collars, in my opinion, are a waste of money. interior the "way-back" days, we would hand-groom our animals, and %. those issues off and kill them manually. it really is a organic approach that works, and it enables to bond the puppy with its proprietor, yet there is that pesky "yuck" aspect, lol. Lotsaluck!
