Don't people realize how unhealthy it is for animals to be overweight. and how easy it is to keep them from getting over weight.

why is it that people think that fat cats are adoriably cute, I think it's sad, it's total abuse! if you saw a person walking down the street that was fat you are probably the same people that think that's nasty and will make fun of them.

It's not that hard to have feeding times instead of free feeding your cats. Not a good thing, cats that are free fed are much more likely to get fat

it's not that hard to play with your cats, get them moving, have them chase a string toy, or bat some balls around etc.

I do understand that there are medical conditions that do cause animals to be overweight.

I'm talking about the people that feed their cat to death.

Yeah I know what you mean. The people that over feed there pets obviously love them but they just do not seem to understand how much of a strain that puts on the animal's health. I always tell people with obese animals that they are 'killing them with kindness'.

I love all of my cats, no matter what they weigh. They are indoor cats and 11 years old. I am sure that being indoors and lacking as much excercise as an outdoor cat is what has contributed to them being 14 pounds. Yes, they have their bowls filled at the same time every day. Sometimes it goes empty before the next fill, and sometimes it doesn't, but they are not on a "kibble limit". I take time to play with my cats every day, but we don't get on the treadmill together and Sallie Lynn would look ridiculous in a body suit and headband.

Obviously you are a person that judges others by their looks if you walk down the street and comment on fat people. I don't make fun of people or conclude judgment in my mind of people by their looks or weight, nor do I do it with animals.

I think you should take more time to look for the questions you have the answers to since you know so much. It's a shame you can't answer your own questions, maybe that's why you've taken SOOOOOOOO much room in the question spot to do so. I find that "total abuse" and quite annoying. Your goal in asking this question was to actually force feed us your opinion. I'm thinking that isn't what Yahoo Answers had in mind.

I have a kitty that has absolutely adorable that has been on a diet his entire adult life. He's very active and loves to play. We can't figure out why he won't drop those pounds - the vet can't either. He is on a perscription diet and his food is measured every day. We even brought a kitty home to help him be more active (which he is). The reason we're proud of him and absolutely adore him? He is the world's cutest orange & white tabby. Check my yahoo360 blog.

I do understand what you're saying in your question. I just hope you realize that there are responsible pet owners out there who are doing all they can - some cats just have more weight issues than others. We've managed to get Max to loose about 5 pounds over the years, he just has 1-2 extra pounds now. (the loose skin makes him cute too!)

One of my cats is overweight, but she was abandoned and left to starve, that has been her problem for the years that I had her, I try to get her to back off with the food, but she acts like she is never going to eat again, so I let her eat what she wants, my other cats are regular weight and do not display this. My overweight kittie is very active, though, she runs and plays and is more active than the others. I know she is spoiled, but she was severely starved when I got her, that is why I just give her what she wants. They have a set feeding time, but my one tries to hog the food, I love her to pieces, play with her, am patient with her, but she still hogs the food. She is getting better now, though, because she waits until the others eat then she eats. I respect your question, a good question, but I feel bad for my girl because I know she was neglected and then thrown out for me to find and take in. I love my cats. :)

My two males both seem a little fat to me. The vet says they're in a healthy range, but the both have a bigger pouch of fat over their stomachs than my female, who doesn't have one at all. They free feed, but I feed them the recommended daily amount of dry only food and I don't let them eat table scraps. I have seen cats that are morbidly obese and it is sad. If a cats mobility is being affected, they're being fed way too much.

I not have a Fat Cat now, but, most of my animals are Fat. Fat is good, just some not want to feed their animals. But, it their decision. Most of our pets live to be 15-20 years old so I have doubts Fat is as bad as people make it out to be. The main thing is good care, shots and Flea/Tick prevention. Heck, someone tell my dog she can not have her Chocolate Covered Donut she will bite them. Ha!!!

I have two cats, both adopted. The first Nemo, was brain damaged from birth, very uncoordinated and about 15 months old. The second, Beasley, is about a year. Nemo looks obese and Beasley looks anorexic. I keep the food bowls out and full at all times so Beasley can eat, but Nemo won't quit. So, I have one fat cat, and one very thin cat. And they're both the happiest cats I've ever seen.

I have a fat cat...unfortunately its a concious decision to keep her that way. She suffers from epilepsy and has to take medication every day which makes her sleepy and lethargic. But I'd rather she be fat and happy than skinny and flopping on the floor pissing on herself! and she is adorable!!
