I've heard this phrase said before, and I'm just wondering, are mules really healthy or something?

Mules take a licking and keep on ticking. Heard this one? "Don't throw the baby out with the bath water."? Comes from the days when the whole family, starting with the father, mother, all the children right down to the smallest baby taking one bath a week (Saturday usually) in the same water. The water got so dirty and nasty you might toss the water out and not see the baby still in it...lol.

I've only heard "healthy as a horse", and I don't think of mules as particularly healthy since they are sterile----or maybe that makes them healthy?
