There should be an easy way to recover the brass shells as they are ejected from the gun so they can be reused, even in the field as amo is always needed in remote areas where resupply is not very easy......will save cost......

if you mean during war time, I think the answer is that you are more concerned about saving your butt, than about saving a few cents. Oh yeah, all that spent brass? It would certainly make a lot of noise while you are moving around, NOT GOOD if you want to live!

As far as general ammo use goes, a lot of people DO save the brass and reload them, or turn them in to be reloaded.

To be reused they need to be reprocessed and cleaned. You have to remember that a small explosion happens that gets the brass case dirty which will jam up a gun, and can change the shape and diameter by the sheer force. So they need to be re processed to ensure that they are useable

When you are using ammo in remote areas, for real, you have a lot of things on your mind, spent brass is pretty low on your priority list.

anything you add to the weight or complexity of a weapon just adds more stuff/complications to the life of an already way overburdened gunman/infantryman/soldier/sniper.

You are adding weight to the weapon. This will require dragging around with you everywhere you go reloading equipment and reloading supplies. And you even said yourself that resupply is not easy.

Reloading is not that much cheaper than factory loads. But reloading allows one to customize the load. I reload because I have some older guns that today's ammo could damage.

The idea of saveing costs in a war is self defeating to the economies of the war profiteers, this means US.

Never say never. They can't be left to roll around underfoot on a ship.
