By baby's measurements and by asking for last menstrual period. It gives an estimated due date so there is the reason for fluctuation in date.

Every human fetus is the same size at a certain number of weeks old until about the middle of the pregnancy when genetic factors kick in and begin to affect the size of the baby. So like when I was pregnant my nine week old fetus was the same size as every other nine week old fetus so the doctor knew then that I was nine weeks pregnant.
When they calculated my due date based on my last period my due date was November 2 or something like that, but I had a period during the first month of my pregnancy so when they did the sonogram they knew that I was only nine weeks along based on the size of the fetus and changed my due date to October 17.
If the date is changed later in the pregnancy then they base that on the size of the fetus too, but it is less accurate so basically your due date is actually anywhere between the 2nd and the 8th of November. And really only nature can tell you when your baby is due :).

Its all based on average size of the baby. At certain weeks, most babies are certain sizes. Based on the size of your baby on the date you had the sonogram, it was the size of a baby due on the 8th. Due dates are approximate. The only real way to test age is amniocentesis. A baby will come when it's ready. Relax its only 6 days!

They go by the measurements of the baby. A due date is only an estimation so don't get two excited that they made it earlier.

This one is easy to answer! The humane fetus grows at exactly the same rate up until the 12th week of pregnancy. after that,.. the traits of the parents will begin to factor in, such as height. If the ultasound is done early enough, the Dr. can tell U when U conceived right down to the exact day.

It has to due with the size of the baby. They estimate your due date at first by your 1st missed period. Then they use the estimated weight of the baby to estimate your due date. Next time you go in, ask them about it. Most of the time they are more than happy to explain.

With a sonogram, they measure the size of your baby. That is how the date can change.
