This is a good question. I too wonder why we are less trusted than gays and muslims, when these two groups appear to be the most hated by Christians....
The funny thing is, we, as atheists, are actually trying to PROTECT the Christians (and EVERYONE ELSES) rights to worship/beleive what they want to....yet they despise us for that. Makes no sense. Kinda like their beliefs make no sense.....

I just don't understand why people discriminate other people's religions just because its not their own beliefs. Everyone has a right to choose (and choose carefully) what they worship. If they chose to become a muslim, christian, catholic, atheist and etc. It's their choice. You can guide them, but you can't force them. If god shows them the right way then it's their luck. But i'm 100% sure that you're not supposed to force other people to join your religion. And don't ever think that you know everything about someone else's religion. Bcuz even they, sometimes, don't know everything about it. Lets say you went online and looked up the Quran or the Bible and read them, and found some stuff that you don't like, and then decide that its a bad religion. That's wrong. You should never assume something about someone else's religion without really comprehending the true meaning of it. This needs to be stopped. Just because one person or maybe thousands, or even more, from a religion is bad, it doesn't mean its what the religion teaches, and it doesn't mean that the entire religion is evil. Religion discrimination needs to be discontinued, for good.

I will tell you why.. I am not prejudice against atheists or christians, or any religion, race, sex, etc.. But i have come to realize that with christianity, especially, they are taught one thing in their order (or denomination - such as baptist, etc..) and the main message is not love all. The main message is "because you are here and listening to the word of god, and understanding the bible, you are saved. And anyone that does not believe what we preach in our church and hearts is going to hell, and it is your job to get people in this church and make them believe in our lord and savior." and i will add .. so stay here with our church, support it and your preacher... and the collection plate passes.
That is just what i have seen. The MAIN problem with the christian religion, and christians bashing other religions and races and sexual preferences is basically how they are interpreting the bible (especially when they do it literally). One church says it is okay to be gay, another church says it isn't. One church says do whatever you like, but make sure to feel bad about it afterwards. And all out of the same bible! It makes no sense.
If the bible is the true word of god (which, first i am not sure how they say that since men wrote it, and then men in the bible , most of the time, are just saying where they traveled and stories of their personal lives - and then there is a preacher who deciphers it and puts it into moral code) then why all the differences in deciphering? why all the different denominations? I mean if it is the true word, they should all be deciphering it the same way, right?
Christians tend to put their morals and beliefs first and foremost and also usually tend to discriminate against anyone that shares a different belief. They are taught to defend their god and lord. they are taught that the "thall shall not judge" does not matter in a case where they must defend their god.. now where it gets hazy is , again, the interpretations. One will interpret that because a guy is gay on the street, he needs to be beat up cause it is in the bible. Well, there is NOTHING in the bible that states "thall shall not be gay" even the "don't be gay" texts are vague on the subject. But there IS a thall shall not judge written very clear.

Speaking as a Christian I am sorry you feel discriminated against, however, I am not one who would do so. Whether or not the President is Christian or not does not pertain to how well they could perform in office. And that is why we supposedly have the separation of church and state. I figure trust is earned and that is on an individual basis based on nothing more than the character you show me. God be with you.

You are a misunderstood minority. Many people do not know or feel the need to know what your beliefs are or how you arrived at them.
At the same time, some people's only contact with atheism is through a vocal and disrespectful atheist (e.g. Madalyn Murray O'Hare). Similarly, many atheists only know of Christianity through eccentric TV preachers or angry proselytizers.

If you think that aethiests are the most discriminated group in America you've lived a very sheltered and one dimensional life. You have no true understanding of the depths to which discrimination can sink or the injuries it can wreak even as it lays hidden beneath the surface of smiling faces and mock acceptance.
I would not vote for an aethiest president because I want a president who would feel accountable to something higher than man.

well.. some atheists sound just as ignorant as some christians. im sorry to say.
and also many people think because a person is atheist that they lack moral values and do not follow the same rules as a religious person would. for example the sanctity of marriage. but then again i know many atheists that hold marriage in a very high regard. its just ignorance.. on everyones part.

There is no justification for abuse. That you've been verbally abused is not acceptable. That anyone has been abused is not acceptable. I'm sorry that happened to you. I truly am. On behalf of all who call on the name of the Lord Jesus Christ, I sincerely apologize.
Christian is a name that's thrown around lightly these days. Jesus said you will know them by their fruit. A good tree does not produce bad fruit. Verbal abuse - or any kind of abuse - is not good fruit.
A true experience of conversion occurs because a person has, first and foremost, seen that their sins are exceedingly sinful in light of such a holy God. And when they've experienced His mercy of pardon - and I mean truly experienced it - it's not easily forgotten. Someone will do something that makes the person mad or upset and just about the time they go to start planning their revenge out of habit, that mercy grabs hold of the heart. And they remember how high the sins and offences against God were stacked against them, and they remember how God had mercy on them and forgave them - for all of it! Suddenly that other person's sin against them doesn't look so bad. And it's easy to just let whatever it is they did go instead of making them pay. It's easy to forgive for Jesus' sake.
I believe it's safe to say that most of the people who are hostile against Athiests aren't sure of where they stand with God. They're more for God than against Him, they're just not sure if He's for them or against them yet. Before I knew Jesus I had a boyfriend who used to say he didn't believe in God. I used to get livid when he'd say that! Oh, I'd go off! And I'd ask him things like, 'Then what do you think happens when we die?' And he'd give some lame answer about just returning to the ground and becoming part of the dirt. And I'd think, 'What a hopeless situation if life begins and ends with just YOU!'
And see? That's just the thing. People need hope. Life seems pretty pointless without it. And to have someone say there is no God just goes against whatever hope they have in their hearts. They're still wondering, "Is there really a God, and if so does He know I exist? Does He care?" These are the questions that plague us until we know Him and come to know where we stand with Him.
There's just something in us that knows there's more than just "me, myself, and I - oh, and you." There just is.
And so when someone comes along and says there is no God, well, no God = no hope. You shatter or destroy their hope or attempt to shatter or destroy it then that's when feelings and thoughts of revenge start welling up. To kill or attempt to kill hope feels the same as to kill or attempt to kill a person's best friend or their child or parent or something. And when somebody kills somebody, the person who killed has gotta pay. It's woven into the human fabric.

organic lack of awareness. because of the fact in case you haven't got self assurance in what they think in, you will desire to be some style of demon. because of the fact they have been taught to "understand" others. yet whilst your ideals do not accept as true with theirs, they're going to discriminate you. maximum of those Christians think of that atheists are serial killers or people who in simple terms prefer to harm others. whilst easily, you would be unable to even tell if a individual is an atheist or not. i don't see why they have a difficulty with human beings's ideals, because of the fact it would not intrude in a friendship until eventually you're a nun. maximum Christians come right here to declare that we are all undesirable human beings, whilst they'd desire to take a not common seem at themselves earlier judging us for our own ideals.
