I think that anorexia is a combination of genetics and choice. I believe anorexia is a disease (kind of like depression) you don't choose to have a disease, you just get it either thru genetics or something your body produces over time. But it is your choice to follow thru on any actions that may come with the disease. If you seek help as soon as you feel it may become a problem or already have a problem, that is the best thing you can do. ONLY YOU CAN HELP YOURSELF....but you also need to realize that being anorexic or bulimic is VERY serious and you could DIE, if you do have that problem, please seek help right away..and know YOU ARE BEAUTIFUL..EMBRACE YOUR SELF!!! GOOD LUCK AND GOD BLESS!

people who become anorexic have a distorted view of their body weight, which convinces them they are fat, and no matter what anyone says or does, that person will remain convinced they are fat even once they get down to 80 lbs. that is if they are not treated by a professional. i don't think you just choose to be anorexic of the top of your head. it's the subconscious thoughts that overwhelm you and the process begins of not eating, etc.

People do not choose to be anorexic. They are generally in a great deal of pain, and struggling with difficult life issues (i.e. past abuse, controlling, demanding family members, etc). They begin to focus on their bodies, food and exercize as a way to not think about their other problems. Before they know it, they are very ill, and "stuck" in the disorder.

Although it may appear to be a choice, I assure you it is not. It's a poor attempt to cope with greater, more painful life issues.

I think they choose to be anorexic. Because right in the beginning, they CHOOSE not to eat even though they knew that by not eating will lead them to be anorexic in the long run.

They choose to be. It takes a lot of self control at first, then their stomachs stop accepting food in more than very small quantities. Several people die each year from mal nutrition that they choose at first, but then let it take control of their lives beyond the point that they could stop it. It is a vicious cycle.

In the beginning it is a choice. They choose not to eat because they usually think they're too fat. In some cases that choice is taken from them when they try to eat again and their stomach can no longer handle food because it along with other internal organs have begun to shut down. It is considered an addiction, a very dangerous one.

All I know is that it's one of my life goals to become one.
